I had an issue with wifi devices, especially the Apple HomePod, losing connection. Our downstairs pc was also running quite slow. We had a wifi engineer out yesterday who said the sky booster was causing the issue as it was too close to other mini boxes so removed it. The speed on the pc went up massively but today the HomePod still stops when playing my iTunes library from the pc through the speaker. Any suggestions?

The hub is upstairs. The wireless pc and HomePod is in the dining room which is directly under the room where the hub is. There is also a mini box in the dining room with WiFi switched off on it as I use powerline adapters for the mini boxes

I posted this issue on the Apple HomePod forum and someone suggested I turn off the 5ghz on my router as it may be struggling with connection between the two bands.
im not very technical - how would I do this & would it affect any other devices?
Thanks

I have changed the name of the 5ghz to have 5ghz at the end of its original name. Is there a way I can turn off the 5gz band altogether as do I need it?
I have no idea what to do now? Is there a way I can tell what devices are connected to?

The only way you know which devices are connected to which band is by looking at their connected SSID on the device.

Ok I have split the bands now. So how do I know which band the apple homepod is connecting to?

With the homekit app on an iPhone/iPad, you can see what wireless network the HomePod is on when it is different to that which the iPhone/iPad is connected to and change it to the same as the iPhone/iPad when prompted, eg: it'll display a message saying iPhone/iPad on a different wireless network than itself.

I am presuming it is on the same band then as I cannot see it saying the message you quote.
So if I want the homepod to be on 2.4 band does that mean I need to connect my phone to 2.4 when using the homepod so it doesnt disconnect? I am really confused.

When you connect to the 2.4Ghz wireless band with the iPhone and then use the homekit app it should say and ask whether you wish to switch wireless networks for the HomePod when selecting that device in the homekit app. But I've found it slightly hit and miss on my own setup which I have 4 HomePods, and it can pick any wireless network in range and change dynamically whenever necessary which usually helps with reliability.

Do you use your homepods on 2.4ghz rather than 5ghz?

I use my HomePods exclusive on 5Ghz myself.

Does your homepod ever just stop playing like it has disconnected?
