Why does it say failed to connect WiFi when attempting to connect?

@Shab it depends on what is giving the message but there are multiple possibilities. To troublecshoot first look at the lights on your Sky hub as they can tell you what is going on https://www.sky.com/help/articles/hub-lights-explained-start
