Wifi issues on some devices

Hi,

My wifi is relativley quick on my laptop, goes through some slow patches. Upon testing it is normally around 250-300mbps. It produces laggy online games on my PS5.

On my partner and I's phones it's unusable but says it's connected. I have the Ultrafast Plus which should be 500 i don't think we have ever got close to that.

Thanks 🙂

Re: Wifi issues on some devices

Issue resolved after call with Sky support - known issue with iphone/safari and the sky broadband shield.

1. go to the my sky app and switch the shield off completely

2. hard (10 second hold) reset on the sky hub

restart and all iphones now connect and safari is back up to speed. workaround is to use the apple filters for security and content for the kids...

Re: Wifi issues on some devices

2024 and this is still a problem for what must be a huge percentage of users?

We configured Shield on the day we got Sky internet several months ago. From the get using our iPhones with sky internet has been terrible & disapointing with significant delays loading content

Want to open a website? Enter adress.... wait 2 seconds (hmmm whats up) 5 seconds...(what's wrong?) 15 seconds (WTH??) Even looking at email with web content (like 99% of all emails these days) and it simply wouldn't load for upwards of 15 seconds.

The other half has literally asked sevreral times if we could go back to our old provider.

Eventually i decided to try turning shield off, and voila. Websites and email loads instantly.

Me to wife: "Have you checked the internet?

Wife: "Sooooo much better"

The following is simply false adveritising by Sky, and probably against trading standards if they know it does slow down access on iPhones which are a substantial part of the market...

Does Sky Broadband Shield does not slow down your internet at all. This is a common misconception with services such as Sky Shield. While some antivirus software can slow down your internet a little bit, for the most part, these days it is not the case and is hardly noticeable if it does.17 Aug 2023

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

@YorkieChunks you can completly bypass Sky's DNS system simply by entering manual DNS addresses in the devices network settings. Google's public DNS is pretty fast and essy to remember 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Your theory thst the issue is Broadband Shield is not something I would expect to be correct I think the improvement could be down to a change in connection but hey report it to the ASA rather than trading standards as they police website claims.
