Wifi issue

When I check broadband status via my sky app all is good with 705mb but when I run a speed test with my mobile phone I'm only getting between 30 and 40 mb . It's super fast with ethernet cable but something definitely wrong with wifi speeds .

@Petehammers66 wifi speeds depend on the distance from the hub and crtically what solid objects like walls the signal has to pass through. The more dense the object the greater the signal loss which is why homes with solid brick or worse stone internal walls are such an issue.

Best advice is to check the hub is out in the open on a surface high enough so its signal is not unecessarily blocked by obstructions like radiators and fufniture. In many homes to get usable wifi in every room you need more than a single wifi source. You can pay Sky for their wifi max package tgat guarantees 25Mb/s in every room or do as I did and buy a while home WiFi mesh network and use that in access point mode. When choosing a system consider tge speed you need in distant rooms few apps can use much more than 100Mb/s.

Re: Wifi issue

When stood next to router and I do a speed test I'm getting 50mb via WiFi and when connecting via ethernet and testing on Netflix I'm getting 87mb . The router is receiving 705mb. When I've done speed tests before I usually get 500mb . The router is receiving full fibre broadband but is not passing it on .

Re: Wifi issue

I will be moving from Virgin Media to Sky in  2 weeks aso just getting a feel what to expect.

It seems to be a identical to Virgin media about Wi-Fi issues. If you got 700Mbs to the router thats what you have paid for..guesing you on  the 900Mbs plan. The Wi-Fi side cost extra with any ISP..they want to you pay between £5 to £10 monthly and only gurantee 25Mbs.

I have always invested in my own router..between £75 to £100 oneoff payment and these routers normally cover a 3 bed double storey house and normally very relaible. I work from home can't afford the drama.  Think of the router as an investment and can always sell it on ebay later.

You getting 87Mbs because the free Sky router don't allow split 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands so so maybe locked to the slow 2.4Ghz.

Just spend £50 on a used Ebay Asus or TP-Link Wi-Fi 6 router and you be sorted.
