We live in a town house and the WiFi on the top floor isn't good programmes keep buffering every few minutes

Sounds like you need a booster, if you have the Sky Max or Sky boost addons then you can claim these free from Sky. If you dont have the addons you'd be looking at 3rd party options or upgrading with Sky.
