WiFi dropping and not connecting to some devices.
Hi,
As an aside I have had a torrid time since joining Sky. Repeated delayed and failed visits. Then when they arrive they sever my Ethernet cable to my outhouse.
Anyway I fixed all that at my time and expense. ...
However in the past few weeks we have had devices randomly disconnecting from
the wifi router and needing reset. Very annoying but fixable. However now I'm getting devices disconnected and simply won't reconnect again. Embarrassing the device that just refuses to connect is the Sky Q box.
Before anyone asks...I've done the dance. Read all the troubleshooting, turned everything off and back on again, changed settings and went back to factory defaults. Still
wont bloody connect. Router is in the exact same central place as the previous provider.
Im at end of my tether with Sky. Before I call up and cancel can anyone please help or advise me what is going on??
thanks
Steven

Re: WiFi dropping and not connecting to some devices.
The Sky router doesn't have the best WiFi coverage. Might be worth looking at broadband boost or homeplugs to get the signal around your property more reliably.

Re: WiFi dropping and not connecting to some devices.
Appreciate the reply. Thank you.
Sadly the router is 3 metres away from my sky box.
Any other ideas?

Re: WiFi dropping and not connecting to some devices.
Being three metres away I would definitely look to connect to the Sky Q box via ethernet, but that doesn't solve all the other devices that aren't connecting. Might be worth using a WiFi scanner app from the Play Store or App Store to see which channels are busiest in the house and if your neighbours, then try changing the router channel to those.
Not sure how good the auto channel switching is on the sky router.

Ok let me try that. Was literally just looking at those.
3m is but it would require a significantly longer cable and would be unsightly according to the wife!
Im away to look at the wifi channels.

Had a Quick Look but nothing seemed useful. What app would you recommend?

WiFiman seems ok. Will show you other connections close by and what channel they are using.

Having the same problem. Really poor. WiFi keeps disconnecting, dropping out and is intermittently slow. Tests say all is well. Hugely frustrating for expensive WiFi.

Maybe the router is goosed.
One of the good folks on here should be able to get a chat sorted out for you.
I used to call Sky and usually got a decent result.

Re: WiFi dropping and not connecting to some devices.
Got through to Sky and the guy was pretty good actually.
We turned the broadband shield on and off then I got one of my devices back on. Couldn't get the PS5 working which is keeping the kids animated.
Now trying a 20 min power cycle on the router ie turning it off then back on again over a 20 min period. The logic is the wifi and ip addresses are refreshed every 10-15 mins or so.
let's see how this goes....

Didn't really work. Another device came on.
still the same issue.
replavement box on it way.
I do think it's something to do with the broadband shield.

Some progress so may get you sorted. Sounds like a bad router to me.

Re: WiFi dropping and not connecting to some devices.
I've had similar issues with the new WiFi MAX hub. Anything plugged into the back using a cable works fine, but the WiFi part keeps dropping after. Really frustrating as the Sky Q box constantly isn't connected.
When I got to speak to human at Sky, they sent a replacement Hub - and the same issue.
So have gone back to my old Hub - and works fine ... just a few dead spots in the house (hence my desire to go with the new WiFi Max hub).
I'm now trying to find another human to speak to , so I can return the 2nd new hub .. and get my contract reverted back to original time frame..
Wish me luck
