Wi Fi Issues

Hi All,

I am having problems with the wifi in my household. The main PC which connects via a cable seems fine, but my kids, playstation and our phones are struggling with the connection and constantly dropping / cannot connect.

Is there anything i can do before phoning up Sky and having a moan? As with most people, it's primetime period with christmas coming up, kids being off school and wanting to play on their gadgets with friends etc.

I see from other posts that providing the routert statistics help, i've had a look but don't see anything in here that makes any sense to me 🙂 Here it is, in case any of you can help?

Thanks in advance,

The router stats show a solid 80/20Mbps connection to the cabinet which is the maximum speed available for the service subscribed to and it has been up for only 53 minutes but I assume you rebooted the router just under an hour before posting the router stats.

The wireless is pushing out a signal and has been up for the same amount of time, one assumes that you have the router in a poor location or/and it is suffering a great deal of neighbourhood interference from adjacent wireless systems.

The best solution is to move the wireless router to the centre of the house up on a shelf when possible for better coverage away from obstacles that block wireless.

Re: Wi Fi Issues

Thanks very much for your response.

You are quite right in your assumption, i tried rebooting the router which seemed to work for a while (50 minutes to be exact) then i had the kids running down the stairs complaining their connections were gone.

The router is currently situated close to the neighbours wall, so it could well be prone to interference from them. In regards to moving the router, that would be a pain as the cable is hidden and would require further cables strewn across the living space to achieve this.

Would wireless boosters/extenders be an option?

Thansk again for your assistance.

Generally speaking, Sky equipment is proprietary and therefore in the majority, you will need to use Sky boosters with the Sky Hub and that may help the situation.

Alternatively, you could place a wireless access point from a third party and connect that to the Sky Hub but it would involve running ethernet cables.
