Why is Sky Gigafast buffering on YouTube sometimes?
My Sky broadband contract was ending at the end of November so I decided to go with EE. Sky's renewal offer was £10 more. I told the retentions guy if they can give me a static IPv4 address instead of MAP-T then I'd renew, but they said they can't so I turned it down.
What I noticed was that websites and YouTube videos load a lot faster on EE. I am on the same speed package as I was on Sky, 900Mbps down and 110 up. (I hate how Openreach still don't have symmetric speeds). I noticed the same thing when I initially switched to Sky Gigafast in 2023 from Virgin Media Gig1. YouTube videos would randomly buffer and stop preloading the video sometimes. Was this caused by MAP-T or bad routing from Sky? I'm not sure. But now that I'm with EE I've determined it can't be an Openreach issue. It has to be a Sky issue
Anyone know what might've been the actual cause?
Also the EE hub lets me split bands and change WiFi channel. Sky's Max hub had basically no control over anything. More expensive yet less consumer friendly.

Fixed IP is only available on the Sky Business Broadband products. Map-T is default but not mandatory on the domestic service and can be removed on request, but the resulting unshared IP will still be transient.

Partly down to legacy infrastructure, but I suspect mostly to protect their extremely lucrative 'leased-line' services.
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2

Re: Why is Sky Gigafast buffering on YouTube sometimes?
@RB9 I don't think it's down to Map-T as I get buffering on Youtube videa on a non Sky 1Gbps connection, it will depend on what content i'm watching etc.
I've had similar issues with a VM 1Gbps connection also
I beleive the issues may be down to Youtube servers or devices not getting enough buffer or throughput. What device are you wtaching Youtube on?
43" Glass TV & Puck Whole Home

Samsung 75" 4K TV, Sky Glass Gen 2 55", Sky Stream, EE FTTC Broadband, Three 5G Broadband (Backup), Sony 7.1 AV Receiver, Technisat MultiSat receiver.
