What to expect on new Sky install in few days
Just asking for some info how the process works.
My activation day is 29th and will need a new line pulled from the street pole. There is no sign of a Sky router being posted..is this like a last min post..what if there is a delay with post. Also does Openreach confirm the appointment few days in advance or also on the day.
With Virgin Media, their engineer brings the router with them so no worry but Openreach dont carry router for any ISP.

Re: What to expect on new Sky install in few days
@Sayek OR pull the cable from the pole CBT to your home if you are having an overhead line feed. Watch the OR video or the Sky help video about an installation.
The Sky router is dispatched a few days before the activation, you will see it in your account messages, text's are sent about delivery/dispatch details, e-mails also but things can go wrong.
If your account has the mobile information then yes OR try to contact all by text, no calling them they will ignore and it may even be blocked incomming calls to the engineer etc, and in advance, and on the day also, this all asumes that they have the correct information.
If it's a straight forward install then should go smooth, can also be a contractor or even a Sky engineer doing, also it is NOT known if you have a 1 day install all done and dusted, if you let SKY do it all by the OTS then until it is finished you are up and running then VM should stay up and online.

Re: What to expect on new Sky install in few days
I appreciate that..I am already a Sky Q cuistomer so they already have my mobile contact.
Just getting a bit worried that no router sent out yet. Really dont want the ONT installed on 29th and still waiting for the router in post.
I plan to remove the Virgin media cables and use the same hole in the wall for the Openreach ONT.
Can I call Sky tomorrow to chase up on the router.

@Sayek You do as what is required for you, if the OR engineer or the contrator does not agree then you will have the issue to deal with at that point in time. You can call sky anytime, have you looked at your account or messages?

I honestly expected router to be in post by now for a large organised company like
Sky

@Sayek It's all a process, you get it sent a couple of days before the activation date.

Re: What to expect on new Sky install in few days
@Sayek the hubs are usually sent out around 4 days before the activation date. In practice your existing hub is very likely fibre ready but even if it isnt it wont affect the install itself but yiu wont be able to use the connection until a working hub arrives.
65inch Sky Glass, 3 Sky Streaming Pucks, Sky Ultrafast + and Sky SR213(white Wifi Max hub) main Wifi from 3 TP-Link Deco M4 units in access point mode

Re: What to expect on new Sky install in few days
@Sayek And you can plug it in, connect to it by wireless or wired, set it all up, play about with it, get to know it ALL ahead off your big day. Also good to have the power on it, Internet light will be orange/amber so you may want to get used to seeing that (kidding).

Yes...admiring the glourious build quality 😂
I hope not to use this junk router and hopefully my TP-Link Wi-Fi 6 router works direct to the ONT.
But if that fails then connect my TP-Link as access point and disable Sky router Wi-Fi.

Re: What to expect on new Sky install in few days
@Sayek Good to check the sky is setup, working then park it back in the box, and as you say the Tp-Link works and really that should not be an issue getting it so.

Re: What to expect on new Sky install in few days
Just a quick update.
2 young guys turned up. They were not Openreach employee.
They pulled the cable from the street pole to my wall then cliped to the gutter pipe as instructed.
I removed the Virgin Media cable at my own risk and the same hole was reused.
I have a spare 1inch thick metal box in the wall and the cable entered property into this metal box.
The installation went well. I kept the Sky router connected to ONT incase any fault with line so east to test but disabled the Wi-Fi and using my TP-AX73 for Wi-Fi.
In the same room getting 500Mbs and in the rear extended kitchen which is pass 1 solid brick wall and 2 glass doors, the table is about 40ft away from router that is front wall of living room and get 390Mbs. The ping is amazing 5ms compared to Virgin Media 15ms.
So far very impressed.
