Weak wifi

I recently spoke with a Sky salesperson where i explained that the wifi signal in parts of the house was poor.  They said i was using an old router and proceeded to send a new router (4.2) to me.  They said this would solve the poor wifi issues.


The new router is quite the opposite.  The wifi signal is now weaker than ever and has worsened throughout the entire house.  I can no longer use the Q mini boxes as the signal is so poor.

 

Please can someone explain why my signal is now poorer than when i was using the old router amd why i have been provided with something  than produces a weaker signal.
