Using Own router with CityFibre

Hey there, a bit of a niche question, but has anyone managed to use their own router via CityFibre network with Sky Broadband?

If so, could you share some light about the config? There is countless information on configuring your own router with openreach (both copper and fttp based) but nothing available about others running using CityFibre.

I have been connected for about 5 days but the feature set is just not there for me and in desperate need to use my own router.

After a bit of fiddling given up as could not get it going.

Was previously with zen. Have tried using VLan 101, 911 (most CF use this apparently), and tried supplying the dhcp client info (option 61) but nothing has so far worked.

Apologies in advanced if I have missed a post in this sub where it has been discussed

Re: Using Own router with CityFibre

I appear to have stumbled upon the answer / the fix for my issues by accident.

I was following a thread elsewhere of suggestions of things to try and ended up having my router in a weird state. I factory reset it, and now everything is working.

just for clarity, I am using a Netgear R8000 running FreshTomato firmware.

Essentially what this means is that running your own router on Sky via CityFibre is a simple as plugging in the router to the ONT, making sure that it is set to DHCP and that is it.

the most bizarre thing is that I didn't haven't to configure any vlans, didn't have to set DHCPv4 client options (option 60+61), and I didn't have to even enable the DHCPv6 setting in the router (disabled by default). It is all just working and I have a v4 address (only v4 might I add).

I suspect authentication must be carried out within the ONT itself. Happy days.

Sky Broadband over CityFibre infrastructure is too new for any such posts.  I'm currently unaware of any information on the topic.

@bwaggz Try setting your router wan to lan with your current sky, the router in wireless router mode, once you get the router up and working try it on the ONT connection!

Re: Using Own router with CityFibre

@bwaggz There is no suspecting that is a fact, and when you need to filter through and get IpV6 addresses the the other is the value that you need to work on to get, With the fact that the CF is using the standard SR203/213 hub's then fibre connection will be similar and option 60/61 will not be a requirement same as the vlan tag! The Netgear Tech manual may help you.
