Re: Unstable connection

@Jase31 Your line is just so noisy, Engineer needs to get rid of that, bad cable joint somewhere, are you Pole connected to the home telephone cable wise? If you had a phone on that line it would be crackling all over the place!!!!

See that WAN time 13hrs, against the rest at 144hrs your line has been dropping like a yo-yo!

Re: Unstable connection

@JimM1 hey mate, yes I'm connected to a pole that i can see in the garden area at the back of my 4 block flat. I don't use the phone or even have one connected funny enough due to the crackling you mentioned. I'm shocked you've told me more information than anyone at Sky and after 5 Openreach engineers. I'll make sure to mention what you wrote here today for the next one who visits. Thanks for the help mate. Very much appreciated!

while the speed is like you say, four times the threshold , it's no use if the connection itself drops every 30 seconds most days, drops as soon as more than one device trys to connect to the WiFi signal or at times when it's really windy, drops and doesn't even come back until the wind has settled.

As far as I'm aware the legislation underpinning the USO doesn't say anything about the stability of the connection, other than perhaps through a generous interpretation of clause 'e'

Subject to paragraph 2, affordable broadband connections and services must be provided throughout the United Kingdom with all the following characteristics—

(a)a download sync speed of at least 10 megabits per second;

(b)an upload sync speed of at least 1 megabit per second;

(c)a contention ratio of no higher than 50:1;

(d)latency which is capable of allowing the end-user to make and receive voice calls over the connection effectively;

(e)the capability to allow data usage of at least 100 gigabytes per month.

Re: Unstable connection

Hello Timmy, Ofcom said about a clause somewhere that you must also be provided with a connection or a connection that worked and can be fixed. I'm going to call them again anyway and update as what you have showed me they never mentioned. I spoke to a couple of different people at Ofcom about the worse scenario - the line needing to be fully replaced and both said the same about an act Openreach would have to abide. I'll copy and paste word for word here what they tell me again during the week.

Re: Unstable connection

Massive shout out to @JimM1 for knowing more about my issue than anyone I dealt with. Finally after an engineer was sent out and as soon as I told him the issue Jim said it could be, he knew exactly what that was and for the first time they found a fault. I've been told it's now fixed and if the issue comes back after 10 days they'll replace the whole line. He even gave me his direct number to keep his word! Thanks again @JimM1

Re: Unstable connection

@Jase31 Good news then. the 10 day period is legit, it allows the dslam to work out and stabilise the connection from the Green box to your OR Master socket, so ideal rock solid stability and keep the sucker powered up for the 10 day period, you can speed test but pick a time, same server if you doing like ookla and keep a note of how it is all going. Sky service checker should indicate 24hrs after the reset and you can see that history build!  80/20 is going to be your level as you are just so close to the cabinet!👍

Re: Unstable connection

That's a huge difference Jim! here's a recent one of mine which shows it's still a bit high but he told me to wait for 10 days so I'll post a newer one in 10 days.

 I was told also the upstream being noisy doesn't matter that much Jim. No idea if it's true.

Re: Unstable connection

@Jase31 Will check it out when cleared for viewing! Don't let the engineer fool you, UP though not as important as the down if problems on the up compounds the down, it's always a two way street!

Seen now, certainly way better, keep an eye on that WAN time that will indicate drop's everytime it does a wan will peg back to zero and go again, but would say you probably will be seeing speed fine and stability a lot better!
