Underwhelming Gigafast speeds

I made the switch from 500mb to Gigafast yesterday however, I've been a bit underwhelmed with the results.

With 500mb I would average 480mb to the hub, often reaching above the 500 benchmark however, the last couple of days with gigafast had only raised speeds to hub of 608-648mbps.

I've rebooted both router and ONT and the cable is a fairly recently new Cat6, wondering if this is due to the now rather old router and if I would benefit from the WiFi Max router? Although I assume the gains there are seen more in the WiFi 6 rather than speed to hub.

whilst this may be the biggest first world problem ever, I'd be interested to know if anyone else has experienced this?

edit: what I have however noticed is much smaller discrepancy between speed to hub and speed to devices which is positive although probably anecdotal.

Can you post a screenshot of the speedtest taken along with the spec of the device you are using via ethernet

Re: Underwhelming Gigafast speeds

Thansk for responding.

current speed to hub is 684 mbps.

I have tested on my PlayStation 5 pro, connected direct to router via Ethernet cable. Unable to upload the screenshot due to format but results are:

tests taken using PS5 inbuilt network tester

download Speed: 669.1 mbps

upload Speed: 8.8 mbps (not too concerned about this, usually sits around 20-50 and ps5 notoriously poor for upload speeds).

testing my iPhone 15 pro max next to router via WiFi tested using Ookla Speed test app.

download Speed: 514 mbps

upload Speed: 91.4 Mbps

ping: 7ms

The PS5 speedtest isnt accurate, never has been since the PS3. You'd need to run one on a PC/Mac for an accurate reading.

I would note your also topping out your WiFi speeds for realistic figures using WiFi 5. You'd be looking at a WiFi 6 router with compatible WiFi 6 device to get higher WiFi speeds.

Is the 'current speed to hub' figure of 684mbps whats showing in the Sky app?

Re: Underwhelming Gigafast speeds

Yeah I'm actually impressed with the gigafast in terms of the ps5 giving much closer to hub speeds than super fast did percentage wise.

my bigger concern is the very marginal returns on speed to hub as opposed to the device speeds as it feels like I'm leaving a lot more speed on the table, paying for double but only get an additional 150-200 Mbps download speed

There is something wrong then, your speed to the hub should be showing around 900mbps or more. Is the Sky app giving any option to troubleshoot or report this?

Re: Underwhelming Gigafast speeds

Unfortunately not, as I am above the 600mbps minimum speed guarantee, the only option received is to test again or test WiFi.

having rebooted ONT and router again today, latest speed checks are 618 this morning and 698 just now, both tested via sky app with speed to hub.
