Hi there, I recently had sky ultrafast installed about 2 weeks ago and since then I've noticed a rythmic ticking noise for the back of the router where the ethernet from the ont box is inserted in port 4. I haven't noticed any performance issues but just wondering if anyone knows if the noise is normal or not.
The router didn't make the noise with my sky superfast fibre.
Cheers

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreBit of a strange one, never heard that kind of noise from networking kit before and not seen anyone report it before. I would say you can ignore it if its not having any performance issues and the kit itself isnt getting hot.

I've tried a couple of different ethernet cables to rule that out as well. I've checked the hub and I'd say it's just warm to the touch. I'll keep an eye on it and contact sky if there's any issues.
Thanks for replying

we have the same ticking noise? Almost like a clock ticking.
Had ultrafast installed 2 weeks ago.

I actually got mines to stop, its sounds strange but I changed the router mode to wanoe only, it still ticked, so I plugged in the old dsl cable into its port, took it out again and the ticking has vanished. Might be worth a try.

It appears the firmware (up to: 7.01.0902.R) on the SR203 models will continue to search for a DSL connection even when it's found a valid WAN, resulting in the switching on the mainboard producing a clicking noise as it does this. The solution is to log in to the router under Admin, click on 'Advanced' - 'WAN Setup' an change the Router Mode to 'WANoE' - Hit 'Apply' then reboot the router so the changes take effect.

Open your browser, enter the following in the address bar: 192.168.0.1 and hit enter. The username is 'admin' and the password is on the sticker attached to the rear of the router.

I'm having he same issue. Router ticking noise is only noticeable at night when it's very quiet. It's extremely annoying. I'd swap to a third party router, but it seems almost impossible to do so with Sky.
Has anyone found a solution for the ticking noise? I tried the above mentioned setting it to "WANoE Only" mode but it's still ticking.
The hub model is SR203 and the firmware version is 7.02.0201.R

Ensure you hit 'apply' after changing the WAN setting before exiting the router settings.
