This has occurred several times now. After midnight, my wifi status from connected, to "connected, no internet". I check my modem, and all the lights are green. I check my router, and the internet light is off. I unplug and replug everything. I check that the Fibre optic cable is plugged in properly, and that the ethernet is plugged in properly. I have photos of all the green lights on the devices. But still no internet. I check my connection on sky.com, and it claims everything is working right. If Sky says the connection in my area is fine, and the lights on my modem and router say the power and cords are fine, then why do I still not have wifi?!
The fact that this keeps happening only after midnight makes me suspect that Sky is trying to save on costs by shutting off service at 1.00 am, expecting few people to notice or care because of the time. This would be illegal and in violation of contract of course.

I have ended up here due to the same issue two nights running, last night there was a dip at midnight but full loss at 2am now tonight I haven't had anything since midnight. It's been too difficult to even find the right place to report.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThere have been outages in various parts of the country over the last couple of nights but at the time of night you've both posted it could be maintenance taking place. Whenever possible this is carried out overnight to keep disruption to a minimum as most customers are asleep. If it hasn't returned by the time the phone lines open in the morning give Sky a call to report it.

And so doesn't happen, because broadband & telecoms provision is a regulated industry recognised as being 'critical' by government. It would also be an incredibly stupid business decision, and completely counterproductive: there's very little cost in actually providing data, but losing customers is expensive (as is infrastructure rental and customer service which remains as a fixed cost)
What does happen overnight is essential maintenance by both Openreach and individual ISPs, and, of course, system failures.

Why does the Sky website claim that everything is working properly if the broadband is down because they are doing maintenance? If the website said that, I'd understand. Instead it tells me everything is working properly, and seems to be trying to gaslight me into thinking it's my fault the wifi isn't working.

Probably because the system checker currently isn't very good, and there doesn't appear to be a link between the maintenance updates put out on social media and the main website information.
