Re: Third party WIFI extender with ethernet
@JimM1 I don't intend trying it at the moment, I was just curious.
One thing I was thinking of trying is using a powerline adapter with the Stream Puck in my bedroom. It currently connects to my new Sky pod wirelessly. There's no specific problems at the moment, but I wondered if it would be a better connection.

Re: Third party WIFI extender with ethernet
@splatto Upstairs/downstairs may be a speed issue, what is the pod giving you on the wireless mesh when you speed test near it at that location!
The pods should be using the hidden high speed wireless wi-fi seperate backhaul when connected that way, you would need to use a mobile wireless wifi analyzer similar to netspot to see all the wifi channels, but NOT on an Apple device, android is fine!
Couple of samsung netspot pictures attached when they get cleared for viewing....

Re: Third party WIFI extender with ethernet
@JimM1 If there are potential issues I'll leave it for now until my knowledge is improved.
I do have the option of just moving the Ethernet cable running into the room where the pod is into the room where the Stream Puck is. If you can remember back to the 90's you could wire a Rabbit extender from the original Sky boxes to another room, and I've only patched over the holes in the skirking board. Slightly irrelevant info there, but never mind. 🙂

Re: Third party WIFI extender with ethernet
@splatto Puck is worth the try as it's a 100Mb/s Interface on that device so give that a try, just get from the likes off amazon if you need to return do have my Sat box on a Tp-Link powerline wired connection and no issues with that at all, pucks can get a little bit off a bad rap, never used one so cannot say! The one i use below as the AV600 is obsoleted now but also have the wireless version's also!
TL-PA7017 KIT
The specifications of the Sky Puck are:
Sky Puck box
Size 10.8 x 10.8 x 1.8
Resolution 3840 x 2160 at 50 frames per second
Sound Dolby Atmos
WiFi 802.11ax (WiFi 6)
Ethernet LAN 100Mb
HDMI 2.1

Re: Third party WIFI extender with ethernet
One last (potentially silly) question. If you get a powerline adapter that has a socket can you plug the puck into the same adapter that you're connecting the puck to via the Ethernet cable?

Re: Third party WIFI extender with ethernet
@splatto Yes, that would be like the TL-PA4010P KIT or whichever with the passthrough sockets! And i also use these for the spot wireless locations TL-WPA4220 TKIT but they are not fast at all!
Always best plugged direct into the power socket, they just hate being on trailing extension cables, they can work fine then one day they just won't play well anymore!

Re: Third party WIFI extender with ethernet
Once again my curiosity took over from the necessity to have forty quid sat in my bank account doing nothing.
I'll report back tomorrow when the adapters are arrived and set up. 🙂
