Hoipefully I've chosen a correct combination, but given my previous negative experiences with an Asus RT-AC86U would the above be a more stable way of replacing the Sky Hub and allow for future FTTP?
Would I be able to connect my SkyQ mainbox and two miniboxes wirelessly without them dropping offline constantly and my four cctv camera's connect and able to be access remotely over a cellular connection?
The Asus just didn't function correctly at all, the Sky WiFi connection was flaky at best and wired was no better. Was advised by Asus to seperate the two WiFi bands but Sky was no better and the CCTV camera's consistently refused to send notification emails or connect over data connection(cellular).
Cheers...

TP-Link Routers can sometimes be a right pain to get connected to Sky lines for some reason.

Indeed, the standalone TP-Link routers do not support Sky's chosen 'option 61' authentication; meaning piggybacking on the DHCPv6 prefix delegation...if lucky enough to be on part of the Openreach exchange that supports it.

@jamesn123 thanks for your comments. I forgot to say I'm currently on superfast so will that modem be ok?
I don't know why I had so many issues with the Asus either, I'd thoroughly researched its compatibility before I purchased and thus surprised I did. Suffice to say my mainbox and miniboxes did connect wirelessly but the connection was inconsistent and it kept dropping off. Wired just stuttered all the time, switching the Sky hub wireless back on and the connection was perfect.
With the CCTV camera's, they're Reolink, I worked through the issues with their support and we proved that they were not getting an Internet connection, as they functioned ok when I connected them to my phone's hotspot. So then I contacted Asus support and they recommended turning off the Asus smart connect, which then made the two wifi channels seperate. This did work immediately but after a time the connection broke again.
Using just the sky hub again results in a stable connection, even though the two wifi channels were linked.
It all just became very frustrating and in the end I gave up.

@jamesn123 Thanks James, can I check with you that the AX5400 will operate with FTTP when I eventually migrate?

If you get it working with FTTC Superfast, it should work when FTTP becomes available. It's the same authentication method. The only difference is you wont need the modem as you'll have an ONT in place.

Yeah as @Skull+Treaty says, there is no reason why it would not work with FTTP if you get it working with FTTC. Its just a matter of whether your able to get it working with FTTC as that will be down to whether your exchange supports DHCPv6 delegation.

@jamesn123 Thanks, but how would I find that out?
Apologies for all the questions..

If it connects then your exchange supports it. If it doesnt then your exchange likely doesnt support it.

@jamesn123 thanks James. Unfortunately due to my experience with the Asus, and no disrespect to your good self, I need an alternative to the Sky hub that works out the box, not a 'suck' and see' and one that'll take all my wifi devices.
So any other suggestions?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThe only other one i know of is the Netgear XR series (I've used the XR500 variant)
It connects the same way as the Asus does, set it to Automatic IP and put the DHCP Option 61 connection string in.

@jamesn123 so the nighthawk series? Opt61 with the tplink modem?

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreYeah although I think it has to be one of the XR series as they are the ones with the custom DumaOS firmware which have the Option61 box. I am not 100% sure if the stock Netgear firmware has the box but I know for a fact DumaOS does.
