Sync Speed low and disconnects

This has been an on going problem for a round three years where my sync speed lowers and I get random disconnects throughout the day.

I've had Sky and Openreach round numerous times abd they either "fix" the problem or find nothing wrong then around a few months later it all starts again.

I'm pretty much stuck with FTTC broadband as at the moment I can't get FTTP as my street is not planned to be upgraded.

Spoke to Sky yesterday who claim there is no issue (have sent a Sky engineer out for Thursday) and my speed is above the minimum (it's not).

I'm at my wits end as the issue is clearly the line but nobody wants to take any ownership of it.

@JusR23  What speed are you supposed to get between and what is your minimum?

If someone has helped give them Like.

If you have found this solution helpful please tick this as the answer.

Could you use the service checker above the forum posts then click on your speed and then check/test my connection and post the resulting table

Obviously there does appear to be an issue your noise margin of 14Db is way too high yet the line attenuation does look like it can achieve the higher speeds. So i wonder is it internal wiring etc.

At any time has sky offered to release you from your contract without early termination charges

We can escalate directly to sky if you wish

Re: Sync Speed low and disconnects

Yes they have but I don't understand why they would offer that as there's clearly a fault which needs to be repaired. And if I were to leave I'd have the same issue with another provider and continue in this loop of despair.

Yes I've got a Sky engineer coming out on Thursday but no offence to them,  they haven't been any help as they can only change the master socket (which has been done numerous times) and it doesn't  fix the issue.

The only time I've saw decent results is when OpenReach sent a broadband expert who diagnosed a fault at the cabinet which he repaired but after 12 months the issue came back. I've since had an Openreach engineer appear at my house (around March time) as he said he'd picked up errors from my line but when he checked it out there were no issues. Again after he left all was good until about 4 weeks ago and this is the worst it's ever been.

If this could be escalated to Sky I'd be grateful as I don't seem to be getting anywhere when I actually speak to someone directly.

Copper wiring degrades over time and unfortunately isps  or openreach can decide that they are no longer economically viable to maintain and are allowed to either reduce their guaranteed speed or release you early from the contract. The problem with moving to a new isp would be that the line conditions will remain

Re: Sync Speed low and disconnects

I understand regards the degradation of the copper.

For the isp to realise they can't fix or OpenReach to decide it's not economically viable to repair it is shocking especially as my street isn't part of the FTTP build plan (I'm litterally surrounded by streets that are and we all share the same exchange.

Its no comfort @JusR23 but unfortunately it does happen that for a number of reasons copper lines cannot be returned to full working order but it is interesting thst the checker shows the speeds that look reasonable where the line is effectively written off the checker would reflect that. Given the history it maybe impossible but hopefully the engineer can work some magic.

The handback threshold of 35-41.5 would generally be used by isps to decide their guaranteed speeds obviously both of which you are below.

When openreach call on thursday ask them to check the internal wiring and mastersocket as well and get back to us with an update

Re: Sync Speed low and disconnects

It's not Openreach that are coming on Thursday it's Sky. I'll update you on what they report back.

Going back to line attenuation figures you would definitely expect them to be raised or missing altogether when there is an external fault with a noise margin of 14 Db.

Re: Sync Speed low and disconnects

I've only had the 14db noise margin since Sunday.

It was hovering around 9-10db for just over a week and I was getting around 48Mbps during that time with no disconnects so could live with that but now it's really unreliable.
