Still no broadband

Hi, so my engineer visit date to set up the broadband was on the 1st of may. An engineer arrived and said he couldnt do the work as the outside work hadnt been done. Called sky and they couldnt give me a date on when this would occur. Openreach have 0 contacting options, should i just cut my losses and cancel my broadband or wait, the whole thing is annoying

My complaint has been open for more than 8 weeks, is there any point going through with a CISAS complaint?

@M44m3  Only you can decide whether to go forward with CISAS but you would need a deadlock letter from sky before doing so

Re: Still no broadband

@M44m3 Sky is your ISP, and you are the customer off sky, unless OR tell sky what is the issue, then everyone is in the dark. If you cut your losses, and stay on a Openreach Fibre connection if/when that ever happens it's an open lottery!

Re: Still no broadband

Hey thanks for replying, sky have said the wire is either too short or my house is too far from the pole. Both houses on either side of me (terraced) have fibre so idk. They havent given a timeframe for when a solution could be reached so for now its a waiting game

Re: Still no broadband

@M44m3 Could be a stock issue at OR for the fibre cable?

Re: Still no broadband

Most likely. Also, would an engineer inform me that they are doing outside work or would it just occur without me being in?

Re: Still no broadband

@M44m3 That is a 6 million dollar question that one, Yes/ may be / No, They do like to consult the owner/occupier and are better to do so, nothing worse than NOT, take a look at the video from OR on the subject, link below....

Re: Still no broadband

Hi - I'm sorry that you're having similar problems.

Our hub arrived from sky and an engineer on 30th april said we could have to wait for BT Open reach to isntall a full fibre cable outside.

We have not been able to get any more information as to when this might happen either,.

Meanwhile, the exisiting provider is chargin 3 times a much per month for an out of contract rate, so

the wait for the switch to 'cheaper' sky is costing us more than we can afford!

If you manage to resolve your activation, I'd love to know how you didit! - (wondering whether Sky has sold me something it can't deliver)

@Planetruth Why are you being charged 3 times as much???

Re: Still no broadband

Im sorry you're dealing with this too, im having to use my unlimited data phone to hotspot to my other devices. Unfortunately all i can do currently is wait, as soon as some kind of solution is reached I'll update 🙂

Re: Still no broadband

Possible because their promotion rates ended and now on a rolling contract. I know Virgin Media out of contract prices is eye watering. They charge £45+ for a basic 135Mbs connection while some people on good deals maybe typically paying £20.

3x maybe a bit extreme but double possible most ISP.

Re: Still no broadband

Sayek is correct

My virgin contract has expired and I declined their offer for another as had already booked sky engineer.

Its either pay virgin £59, try to cancel sjy or rent a mobile hub, which wont be fast enough...

Re: Still no broadband

Update: had some correspondence with complaints team and customer service on the phone. the issue is my house is too far from the pole so the wire/line wouldn't be a safe clearance in the air. Openreach now have to put a new pole. I dont know how long this will take so im back to waiting again. Its a shame as both neighbours on either side dont seem to have this issue but hey ho thats life.

Re: Still no broadband

At least its making some progress and hopefully be sorted.

My whole area has Community FIbre. Their van was working on the pole opposite our house for over a year but suddenly gave up. Not sure what the issue was, but now 12 properties on our road missed out on cheap 1Gb Community Fibre for £25.

I think there was some blockage between the pole near my house and the next pole as they were  pulling  blue cable every visit.

Eventually Openreach turned up with their vans and decided to connect the 2 poles using overheard cables instead of underground. I really could have enjoyed cheap Community Fibre and their router is far superior. 🙄

Re: Still no broadband

Update: sky have said I'll receive an update on 7/7/2025 so more waiting. Not sure if a new pole is being set up hence the timeframe, who knows?
