Speed to the Hub fast then I am getting to my devices…
Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone might be able to offer some advice, as I’m really struggling to get this resolved through Sky support.
On 29 September, I upgraded from Ultrafast to Full Fibre Gigafast. Before the upgrade, I was getting around 450–480 Mbps consistently on my devices. Since upgrading, my speeds have actually dropped - I now regularly get between 150–200 Mbps, sometimes less and sometimes the 450 Mbps I had previosuly but never above 500 Mbps.
When I run the Sky Broadband Service Checker in the app, it reports around 675 Mbps to the hub, so the fibre line seems fine. However, the speeds from the hub to my devices (both Wi-Fi and wired) are much slower.
I’ve tested this using:
- Speedtest.net, fast.com, and the Google speed test
- The Netflix network test on my Sky Q box (which is wired directly to the router) - this also only shows around 200 Mbps
I’ve followed all the troubleshooting steps listed on Sky’s website:
- Restarted the hub and all devices
- Checked all cables and connections
- Ensured the hub hasn’t moved and is positioned centrally
- Tried both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz connections
None of this has made any difference.
It feels like something isn’t right since the upgrade - the line to the hub looks fine (Or so they say), but the throughput to devices is much slower than it used to be, even on wired connections.
Has anyone else experienced this with Full Fibre Gigafast, or found a fix for similar problems?

@steeley77 Is it still the same hub you have pre/post your upgrade?

@steeley77 Going to make the assumption that your PC is good enough on a wired connection. First turn off the Sky Q, remove the Ethernet connection on the sky Hub from it, power off and restart your sky Hub, once it is back up speed test again your option, to which one or all off them if you wish. Takes one bad device to slow down a network, it's a 100% shared resouce and all have to be done.
That is why the recommended is ALL devices off, test with one and go from that point. I know my network on all the wireless/wired devices so know how and what they do, no need for me to kill anything, and the FF500 is met anytime i wish to test, if not i have to go look what is taking the band width, and most off the time it is not me, but a OR/Sky restriction!

Thanks. I powered down all device and did as you said with my laptop and I still got 150Mbps. I gave it another 10 minutes and still the same. I also tried with a different device on WiFi and it was still the same.
Interestingly, the upload speed is a constant 107Mbps all the time whatever the device wired or WiFi.

@steeley77 With the upload you report at that speed range looks like you have the FF900 package from sky, OR range is 1000/110Mb/s speed setting for that. The laptop you used for testing, was connected Ethernet and you had a Power cable to it also, not just running on battery with reduced cpu power saving features enabled!
What sky hub are you using and if it is the SR203 are you able to web manage and look at the hub setting's?

@steeley77 there have been a number of similar reports of reduced speeds where Sky Q boxes are using Ethernet. Exactly what is going on is unclear but there appears to be an issue with a conflict between Sky Qs propietary mesh technology and faster networks. Sky Q was an advance when launched in 2016 but given the limited life for satellite broadcasting in the UK of around 5 years Sky do not apppear to be updating that system
You could try using wifi to connect the Q box but honestly the best solution maybe switching to their Stream service which does not have similar. network issues.
