Speed capped?

Hi there,

I had problems with my broadband, a while back, this issue was resolved and since then my download speed sits at around 55mb whereas previously it'd be 67mb pretty much constantly.

I had an issue with my line recently and initally sky sent an engineer to run some checks (he determind it was a line fault that's now been resolved), however on that visit said my line had been capped a while ago, so this explans why I sit on 55mb now.

I just called customer service and they didn't have a clue how to lift any restrictions, any advice?

Re: Speed capped?

if your line is under your guaranteed (GMDS) then a DLM reset is usually requested by the engineer when any faults have been cleared. Openreach have tightened the criteria for DLM resets, meaning that if the line is capped but above the GMDS then it should be left for DLM to do its thing on its own. There is an exception if the line speed is capable of a certain percentage (which I can't remember off the top of my head) higher, which it seems your line probably isn't. A degradation of the copper could also mean that your max attainable line speed has reduced and your line needs to run slower to remain stable.
