Some sites unavailable via sky broadband but work via mobile hotspot
I cannot access some websites via sky broadband but can access via mobile hotspot on Tesco mobile (O2 netwrok).
Tried a traceroute and this failed at hop 6 which is ip 109.228.63.224
This has been going on for a couple of days with slow traffic prior to that.
Clearly a routing issue somehwere....

First troubleshooting step would be to unplug your router for 30mins so you get a new public IP as it may be a problem with that IP

Re: Some sites unavailable via sky broadband but work via mobile hotspot
Regarding unpluggin the router to try and reset the IP address, I am on a static IP and despite trying everything I can think of, including a long period of taking the router down, nothing has worked....
Strangely this issue appears to affect two of the sites I visit, one in the USA and one in the UK....
Interesting that it only fails to connect via Sky broadband though. This of course is subject to routing via BT Connect via local exchange DSLAM or whatever they use these days and then whatever route it takes form there.
Other services like gmail and other sites are nto affected.
I am currently connecting via a fairly pedestrian Tesco mobile (O2) connection which is 4G at best with 3G being more likely.
Being a retied IT support person this is frustrating as I can no longer call people I would have done in the past.
Downdetector is of no help....
Waiting for Sky to pop up on here, but suspect that may be a lost cause.
As my contract expires in around 6 weeks, I am tempted to go elsewhere as support here can be... sporadic.
That and when you do get through to them you can often be speaking to someone who has insufficient knowledge or experience to help.
Meh....

You can't be on a static address as Sky don't do them. It may need to be unplugged for up to an hour

@Sixpekes can you access these sites with any other device using the Sky connection? Have you power cycled your hub yet?

Re: Some sites unavailable via sky broadband but work via mobile hotspot
Well today, having been told I don't have a static IP address, despite having taking steps to get a new one and failing.... thus making me think I had a static one.... I attacked the router and finally managed to force a new IP address.
This failed trying the disconnect it for at least an hour, but worked by using the connection status function to disconnect the DSL.
After a minute or so, reconnecting and this apppears to have worked as far as the IP address is concerned.
However, Facebook still appears to be absent as does one other site I use.
I can however now connect my iPad to the other site, but not my laptop, which still fails to get to the other two sites.
For now I give up, I will connect via my iPhone for the foreseeable future until I can talk with my son who is a but of a geek, well he does have a masters in netwrok security........
