Slow internet on hot days

I'm now on year 3 of this issue and no closer to get it resolved!

whenever the temperature rises above 25 degrees, my internet grinds to a halt. Having. Replaced routers and cables, I am 100% convinced it's a outside cable issue. - likely something getting hot and expanding or similar.

however I can't get Sky to help. When they see the issue all they want to do is send me a router replacement. When this arrives, normally the heat wave is over and the issue goes away - it makes no difference if I replace the router or not.

No one is able to get BT to attend - the one time they got booked they turned up early morning when it was cooler and guess what - no issue!

I've concluded my only option is to leave Sky and get a City Fibre connection installed.

anyone have any ideas?

Quite possibly, particularly if you are on FTTC broadband (ie a copper bearer cable)

It wouldn't: an ISP cannot actually insist that Openreach resolves an intermittent issue though, particularly on the legacy network which is being entirely replaced.

In this context it's Openreach rather than 'BT' (which is an ISP in competition with Sky)

A CityFibre circuit would be delivered over FTTP, so yes, that would be a solution.  Unfortunately if there's no Openreach fibre available to the address yet then any other Openreach ISP would inherit the same issue.

Perhaps note that Sky has had a carriage deal with CityFibre since last year, so if there's a CityFibre circuit available at your address then it could carry Sky Broadband.

Re: Slow internet on hot days

Would any of that make sense as Inhave full fibre with Sky already.

would Sky be open to moving me to a City Fibre line? They aren't even interested in helping me fix the issue!

@manwithstick while it is possible that your issue is an obscure issue with uour full fibre Openreach line it does seem unlikely. Unlike the old copper network the fibre is entirely passive and it is carrying an optical signal which should not be affected by heat - glass being pretty resiliant material.

If you ask Sky if they can switch you to City Fibre they may well agree but they may require you to buy a higher speed product if you are still in the 24month contract period - they sell packages up to 5Gb/s. You can check by looking at your upgrade options in the My Sky app if you see speeds over 1Gb/s thst indicates City Fibre is an option.

However whether changing the network will definitely work it will change the ONT which is the one componsnt thst might affect speeds. I assume you have definitely ruled out issues with WiFi spedds in your home? Given the number of factors that can affect WiFi speeds that would be where I would be looking.
