Re: Slow gigafast after upgrade
Hi sayek,
you have pretty much described the problem, if you are a pre existing customer with the black sr203 hub and upgrade, you retain that hub, which is wifi5 and not able to handle 1gig bb very well, and you have to pay another £5 per month to upgrade to sky max to get the white, wifi6 hub.
if you are a new customer you get the white hub whatever package you get with fftp. Which seems unfair to me. Although I've heard that the white hub isn't very good in terms of range, so maybe that's not the best either. I understand the booster pods for that have to be engineer installed and I'm not sure if you have to pay for them.
customer loyalty appears to be a disadvantage as far as I can see.
so my advice is really: if you are a pre existing customer withthe black hub, don't go for a package above 500mb/s with sky, or shop around and go elsewhere if you are a current customer and get 1gb from someone else and get a new wifi6 hub.

Re: Slow gigafast after upgrade
I agree there is no perks for loyalty..most companies offer incentives for new customer to walk through the door. But it's only when you give the 30 days notice to leave, you get their attention 😀

Re: Slow gigafast after upgrade
Also experiencing the same currently after 'upgrading' to GigaFast over the weekend. Only getting about 150Mbps despite speed to hub showing as just under 700. Speeds where higher on the 500 package previously somehow. Sky CS typically have no clue and left banging my head against a wall. Despite some negatives on the white Max hub that get mentioned, I feel like it should be included as standard on the GigaFast package, as this SR203 just doesn't seem capable enough.

Re: Slow gigafast after upgrade
@RJKennedy the SR203 is limited to WiFi 5 against the Sky Max hub which is WiFi6. In practice this means WiFi spedds top out at around 650Mb/s against 900Mb/s in the area near the hub. However that does not explain youur issue. In terms of range the two hubs are in my experience is almost equal. Unfortunately increasing speeds to the hub will not speed up devices connected by WiFi where the limiting factor is the attenuation of the WiFi signal passing through walls etc. Devices connected by Ethernet will benefit on either hub.
You can get the white hub if you want by paying for Sky's WiFi Max package but shile you can get extenders to improve WiFi coverage but the soeed guarantee is @5Mb/s in every room. No ISP will guarantee speeds over 200Mb/s You coukd buy your own third party WiFi 6 or 7 ststem but before doing so consider the speeds you need as almodt all domestic apps including video streaming and. Most work apps cannot use 100Mb/s and while downloading will get faster how often is that going to becan issue?
65inch Sky Glass, 3 Sky Streaming Pucks, Sky Ultrafast + and Sky SR213(white Wifi Max hub) main Wifi from 3 TP-Link Deco M4 units in access point mode

Re: Slow gigafast after upgrade
I know this is a year old thread that was brought back a couple of weeks ago but I've been looking through threads to solve a similar issue.
Hopefully my resolutions will help others.
I had Ultrafast and an SR203. Also Sky Q and 2 minis so really a router and 3 hot spots when looking on wifi analyser.
Robust enough but speeds of around 50Mbps upstairs at the back. I have a garage 20Metres from my house and got around 2Mbps. I have CCTV, office, security and CCTV in the garage so ended up with a powerline solution.
So recently got Gigafast as part of contract renewal. I'm not new to this so realised on the SR203 I wasn't going to see much if any improvement.
We are stuck needing a landline due to elderly parents ringing us so that means an SR203 or possible upgrade to SR213.
Reading the issues with the SR213's range I decided to go the Access Point route.
So before the Gigafast upgrade was done I bought TWO TP-Link Wifi 7 routers, one upstairs and one downstairs in EasyMesh mode, connected to the Sky SR203 and turned off the wifi on the SR203.
And bang, straight away getting 400Mbps on wifi devices downstairs, 200Mbps upstairs and even 100Mbps in the garage.
Now the negatives start. Even though I'd selected connect to a non Sky router on SkyQ and got the Minis to connect the connection was poor with constant freezing and disconnects. The only way around this I've found is to Powerline the Minis and turn off all wifi on Sky Q and both Minis.
I realise SkyQ is a Wifi5 based system and now Sky want everyone to move onto Sky Stream but I'm resisting for a while longer.
Come upgrade day to Gigifast and I'm seeing around 850Mbps being reported at the hub. I have PS5 hard wired and thats reporting 790Mbps down and 105Mbps up.
Also have Apple TV4k hard wired and that's reporting 893Mbps down and 109Mbps up on speetest app.
On Wifi7 enabled phone I'm getting 650Mbps in same room as Access Point and 100Mbps in Garage.
One problem remains and it's the SR203 I think. I have around 45 devices connected and occasionally items that are idling will be kicked off and I'll have to restart them so they get re-allocated an IP address. I'm not sure if a SR213 will be any better?
I'm tempted at this point to get an SR213 from ebay and try one. (Yes I know they are Sky property)
