Re: Slow gigafast after upgrade
Yes, I have the giga fast package and use the sr203 router. I had the sr203 on my previous package, so no upgrade to the white router without paying more for the max package. I've heard that the max router might be quicker, but poorer Wi-Fi, and I didn't want to pay more again to get the max router.
so, left a little disappointed that there wasn't anything saying this when I upgraded, or if you have the sr203 you can't expect more than @650-700mb/s, which is a bit off really.
As I say, come renewal time I'll reevaluate options and switch.

Re: Slow gigafast after upgrade
@Axel905 As a wi-fi 5 rated router it is what it is for a wireless connection, with Ethernet and a device capable you will reach the speed required. Wi-Fi 6 like the max router is a different animal but never used one so cannot comment on it's wireless signal strength.

Re: Slow gigafast after upgrade
IMO paying for 900Mbs connection is waste of money unless your home is wired network and so able to squeaze out the all the bandwidth. Even worse if you hoping to get that via Wi-Fi using Sky old black Wi-Fi 5 router. Lets not forget you paying for 900 but Sky only gurantee 600. The mid tariif 500 offers batter ratio of min guranteed speed of 400.
My 2 cent..spend about £75 to £100 on a TP-Link or Asus router. I had Sky 500 installed today and using my own TP link router via Sky SR203. Had this router 2 years with Virgin Media and served well. Sky Wi-Fi speed has not dissapointed with this router on day 1..not sure if I would be saying the same if using either Sky black or white router...but I would not trust Sky router even with their 150Mbs package for range and stability.

Re: Slow gigafast after upgrade
Hi @JimM1 , the max speed of 690 download is fully wired Ethernet, using cat7 cable. Sadly Wi-Fi only gets @400mb/s even if sat almost on top of the router. Sky confirmed that's pretty much everything the sr203 can do. It must be the equipment as the neighbour gets way better speed and I know the line can handle much higher. It's full fibre into the house and the router is then than 30 cm from the port. Sky confirmed the wiring and config is perfect, but also confirmed it's pretty much maxed out with their kit.
i don't want to spend even more to get the advertised, when I can go elsewhere and get higher for less money, or effectively downgrade the sky package and save some money.

@Sayek Sky SR203 on a wireless wi-fi connection. Be careful what you say until you have experience off using the Equipment.

Re: Slow gigafast after upgrade
I am not disputing the SR203 can't deliver 500Mbs. I tested the the SR203 Wi-Fi at close range before switch over to the TP-Link and it offered simiar to TP-Link.
But my point is can that SR203 deliver reliable and over a decent range before it becomes usless.
And you also proved that 500Mbs is a better value package as you got what you paid for on Wi-Fi
BTW you need to raise ticket with Sky about your poor latency 😉

Re: Slow gigafast after upgrade
@Axel905 images need to be approved by a human before they appear in the forum and you should be able to see them now.
What @mormegil reports checks out with my own testing that the SR203 hub you have tops out around 650Mb/s the SR213 white WiFi Max hub tops out over 900Mb/s while I accept a third party gaming router can be faster still assuming the device supports the appropriate WiFi standard (WiFi6,6E or 7).
In practice however there is minimal performance difference as very few if any applications can use the extra bandwidth and the bottleneck tends to move from the WiFi speed to elsewhere. For example many server operators limit the bandwidth each conection can access to allow more simultaenous connections. If you want the best performance ethernet connection are strongly recommended and the performance of all three routers will be the same.
Sky will supply a SR213 to you if you buy their add-on WiFi Max bundle but whether that is a sensible upgrade is up to you. Personally having used both hubs I wouldn't bother if you need better performance buy a third party router/wifi system that is more flexible and can offer better value in the long run.

Re: Slow gigafast after upgrade
Very kind of you to share those test...very educational 😀
Can I trouble you to repeat these same test in a different room please maybe upstairs bedrood or same floor but be 30 ft away. Wanted to get an idea how distance affects these routers please. You already proved Asus router is king at close range 😎

Re: Slow gigafast after upgrade
The problem with windows 11 and a WiFi 6 adaptor is the power sharing mode so the pc of not under stress will connect at low power or 2.4 ghz and the speed can be anywhere from 60 to 600 Mbps

Re: Slow gigafast after upgrade
Thanks for sharing the results.
So the black router supplied as standard on Sky 900 Mbs package unable to cope and they expect customers to pay extra for the improved Wi-Fi 6 white version.
As a former Virgin Media customer, they supplied really bad Hub 3 and 4 Wi-Fi 5 on their packages upto M500. But on their Gig1 package they supplied Hub 5 as standard which is based on Wi-Fi 6. They even offer free boosters on theri Gig1 packages.
