So we have had consistent speeds of exactly 40mb for the last 8 months or so after what can only described as the worst broadband service I have ever had.. engineers ended up digging up my brand new driveway and all sorts, anyway 40mb (my sky tests show 69mb)
not what sky say I should get but I was happy.. I could download programs on my sky box and work !
Went away on holiday and turned sky box and router off.. wish I hadnt. Since then sky speed tests were consistently showing as 8mb (45 mininum guarantee) and download on other speed test sites was a remarkable 1 mb 2 at a push.
Calles sky and they say cant see any issues. And escalated wuth open reach.. now the 'my sky' tests arw showing as 45mb to router yet every other speedtest in existence is showing download speeda of 1 - 2 mb. How can this be!? Surely skys my sky tests are a complete lie
So frustrating

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@TonyLo Please can you post your router stats so the forum can advise on any issues. This link explains how to do that https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Broadband/How-to-find-your-Sky-Broadband-router-stats/td-p/2855717#

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@TonyLo Your router stats show your line is connected at 49mbps, it looks like DLM has capped the speed to stabilise the line(the raised noise margin and 20mbps upload also suggests that).
Sky's speed test will always be higher than 3rd party tests as they test different things, Sky tests the speed to your router and 3rd party tests show your throughput to the device, this can be significantly lower if using WiFi.
When using a 3rd party test what are the upload results?

Hello thabk you for taking the time to respond.. here is a third party result.. slightly better than usual!

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@TonyLo Have you tried a speed test on fast.com?
What results does that return.

Hi thanks for taking time to help and respond!
Here we are:

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@TonyLo Thanks for the test results, it looks like you may be suffering from congestion or interference on the downstream if using wifi.
If your using WiFi then changing the wireless channel may help,if your using ethernet then it won't help at all.
If your only using ethernet then it points to congestion and getting Sky to acknowledge that will be hard(same with all ISP's), im leanijg more towaed this being the issue coupled with the line issue that is causing the banded/capped line speed and raised noise margin.

Can we establish what tests you are doing via ethernet and by WIFI?
Results will be inconsistent over WIFI and particularly using fast.com (even using ethernet) in my recent
experience

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@TonyLoFrom these router stats it looks like the DLM is kicking in because of a possible fault. Have you reported this to Sky for them to do further tests to see where the fault could be?

Hi thanks for responding. Logged with SKY and told they will escalate to openreach so waiting to hear back.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@TonyLoAre they calling you back? Have you checked track orders in my account to see if there is anything there about the fault?

They said they would call back but nothing, I have an Sky engineer coming Friday next week though

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@TonyLo If that is in place then you might find that there is no need for a call back.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreYour speed figures are exact amounts which is a telltale sign of DLM banding, along with that fact your noise margin is raised. The engineers should be able to see this and fix it.
In the future i would not recommend switching the router off, they are designed to be always on devices and you can easily mess up the line management by turning it off as you seem to have found out.
