Sky blocking content

Does sky block certain websites by default? I've had trouble getting to certain websites, but when I activate my VPN I have no issues. I can access gambling websites (of course, that suits Sky) but I can't access adult entertainment sites. I do not have Sky shield, I have been through my router settings and triple checked that there are no site blocking rules or content filters in place. So are Sky taking it upon themselves to block content without even giving me the option to decide whether I want to be exposed to it?

@Sharktism You do have sky shield everyone has, but you do have to set or have sky set the required option level!

Aye I've just had a look at my online account (not My sky) and found that Sky Shield was indeed enabled despite their being no hint of it anywhere else.
