Sky Wifi Dropping

I have a Sky supplied router (model SR203) that we've had since January 2023. We have lots of dead spots in the house or areas that are not getting a great signal so pretty much right away I started using a couple of TP Link RE650 range extenders and everything's been working fine.

More recenty we identified another couple of dead zones so we purchased two more TP Link extenders (this time the RE700X). The first one was added and worked fine for a couple of weeks so I added in the other one and then the problems started.

Now the various extenders just stop working at random times. Most mornings I have to reboot the Sky hub to get them to reconnect and sometimes throughout the day too.

I'm about to buy a TP Link router to see if just using the sky hub in modem mode and letting TP link products take over everything else would be a fix but because of the cost involved I thought I'd run it past people on here first.

I'm attaching the most recent page of activity logs from the Sky router below. Is there anything else I can try before buying a new router?

Re: Sky Wifi Dropping

Sadly not. Sky visited and the guy was really helpful but he could only swap the hub which didn't help.

He recommended getting a replacement third party router so we got TP-Link Archer AX53 AX3000Mbps and use that as the main router and the extenders around the house and everything works fine now.

Re: Sky Wifi Dropping

thank you for replying.

I have a Sky Max Pod being sent out at the moment, but am not holding out that it will fix everything.

You say you got the TP-Link Archer AX53 AX3000Mbps router. What extenders did you get? Interested to know incase I need to go down that route myself.

thanks

Re: Sky Wifi Dropping

Hi. We got the RE700x extenders and they've been amazing.

Re: Sky Wifi Dropping

Another question on the AX53 router.

Did you plug it into the ONT box in the house directly?

And if you did, was it purely plug and play, or were there settigns that had to be changed?

The more I read, the more I hear about certain routers working/not working with Sky FTTP.

thanks

Re: Sky Wifi Dropping

Hi. It's plugged into the Sky hub and then you need to go into the sky hub settings and turn off the WiFi on the Sky Hub. There's no "modem mode" like there is with Virgin hubs so this seems to be the only way of making sure so it's not broadcasting any wireless network.

Then the TP Link router becomes the only WiFi network.

This is how the engineer said we'd need to do it and ours has been running problem free for a couple of months now... which is unheard of in the two years we've been with Sky..!

Re: Sky Wifi Dropping

Cheers. I've seen others mention what you have in place. The exsiting Sky Hub is the router, but has the wifi disabled, and the TP Link is providing the wifi instead.

I need to look into this a bit further, but appreciate the info you have given me so far.

Be prepared this may not be the last question 🙂

thanks
