Sky Ireland - replacing Sky Router with ASUS RT-AX86U Pro AX5700 - help needed

Hi
New user and complete novice - looking for help with replacing router.
I have gone through the various discussions and found the following info when replacing the Sky Router with the Asus AX86U -
1. Sky Ireland uses PPPoE so on the first screen when setting up teh ASUS Router - select "PPPoE" as the Internet Connection Type,

2. On the second screen - for your Internet ISP Account Settings - use the following -

Username -  anything@skydsl
Password  -  anything
3. On the Wireless settings screen - it looks for you to assign a unique name or SSID to help identify your wireless network - here I just selected a random Network name like HOME NETWORK and in the Wirless Security box - I assigned a random password. I did not select to seperate 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz so left as default
4. The 4th screen is titled "LOGIN Username/Password settings" and it asks for you to fill in 3 boxes -
- Router Login name

- New password

- Retype Password

Here is where I got stuck - is it looking for the Sky Router Wifi Name to be subed into teh "Router Login Name" field ? If so, can I leave the password as is on the Sky Router label ?

Thanks in advance for what i am sure is a down right silly question.

Regards

@Zorton

Sky Ireland also needs a VLAN ID tag 10 to connect to the ONT on the internet WAN side.

Hi

Thanks for the reply - have that noted from another discussion

You would need to also enter
Vlan id 10 and
MTU 1500

- but was wondering if you would know the answer to this question as listed -->>

@Zorton

When you first log in to an Asus router it will ask you to change the password. The router login name is 'admin'. And the new password is what you choose.

@Zorton

For uploading photos I believe you need to be at level 1 or above on Sky forum.

If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask.

Re: Sky Ireland - replacing Sky Router with ASUS RT-AX86U Pro AX5700 - help needed

So I have it setup now - all seems to be working fine.
Very impressed with the router - its range is seemingly beating the Sky Router with Booster.
Its higher Download speeds with better latency.
Its covering the whole house and into the conseravtory so does what is needed.

Overall - very impressed.
Had thought I may need another to add to an AI Mesh but looks to do the job on its own.

I have downloaded and installed the latest firmware as well.
Thank you @mae-3 for the help.

Re: Sky Ireland - replacing Sky Router with ASUS RT-AX86U Pro AX5700 - help needed

Hi
Has been going well with teh new router so far but was wondering if I wanted to add another ASUS Router to create an AI Mesh to extand the range - what would be recommended ?
Should I stick with AX for functionality and what would be a cheaper option than the AX86U Pro 5700 to add as a node ?
Many Thanks

@Zorton

I'd stick with AX for the wireless mesh, which has better performance and is less prone to interference.

Thanks @mae-3 for the reply.
Thinking of trying the "ASUS TUF Gaming AX3000 V2 Dual Band WLAN Gaming Router " as the node.
Currently on sale and reduced to £79/€90 on amazon Germany.

@mae-3

Hi

I read your reply's to this problem here and I myself am having same initial problem in that I trying to swap out sky router for the same model Asus mentioned here.
However I can't find any VLAN option to change to 10 and the MTU option will not go up as far as 1500. It just seems to go as far as 1492 . Don't know if you can help please? I can't connect to internet.

Re: Sky Ireland - replacing Sky Router with ASUS RT-AX86U Pro AX5700 - help needed

Hi @MightyMayo
You can leave the MTU at 1492 - just checked and thats what mine is at.
In regards to the VLAN ID - I think to set this up you do the following-
1. Logon to your ASUS Router Gui.

2. On the panel on the left side of the screen - go down to "Advanced Settings" and select the option titled "LAN"

3. On the "LAN" screen - you should have a number of tabs - one there should be called IPTV - select it.

4. Under "LAN port" - next to the title "Select ISP Profile" - click the drop down arrow and choose an option called "Manual Setting".

5. With Manual Setting selected, the next line should be titled "Internet" - in its values you should have the following -
VID = 10 / PRIO = 0
6. With that done - just click the "APPLY" button down the bottom of the screen.

I think that is how I set the VLAN to 10.

Hope this works
