Just got FTTP installed but the Sky Hub just won't play nicely with my wired network. I've tried a few things but it's limited to 100Mbps. It's not connecting at 1Gb. I did hook it directing into a router and it then connected at 1Gb but then it was limited by the line from where the fiber comes in.
I did test the line between where the fiber comes in and the network equipment and I have a proper 1Gbps connection so I want to replace this hub with an Asus router. So many to choose from. Wanted to see if there are an particullary good good models. without breaking the bank.
Oh, also tested the Hub wifi by itself and getting the advertised 900Mbps speed so that's not an issue.
I still have my Virgin setup with 384Mbps which has worked fine with the current setup.

@Marty+Putney Should be fine as long as you have no need if replacing the sky Hub completly for a landline phone!

I'm looking at the ASUS RT-BE58U BE3600 WiFi 7 AiMesh right now

Re: Sky Hub replacement, what are the cool kids using?
So I got the sky hub working as is.
My setup.
Fiber comes into the house on the west side. I have coax and ethernet running from that point to under the stairs where the networking gear is. From there it fans out around the house to AP's and other Ethernet ports for things like TV and my office. The run is about 4-4.5m from the entry point to network gear.
No matter what I did the hub would only run at 100Mbps. The admin would show the ports at 100Mbps. I tried putting the hub under the stairs and plugging the fiber to the ethernet. The hub would then say the ports were running at 1000Mbps but still only getting 100Mbps. I tested the line and it ran fine at 500-600Mbps plugged into a Rasberry PI and access OpenSpeedTest running on MBP Max accessing the network over Wifi.
So to test a theory I bought the cheapest switch on Amz for £6. Plugged that between the hub WAN port and the cabel come from the Fiber access point. Tada, it works now. Apparently it convinced the hub that the ethernet is actually 1000Mbsp.
Bit ugly. Going to let it run over the weekend and see how it does and then make everything tidy. Got some better ethernet ports coming so I'll replace the one by the fiber connection

Re: Sky Hub replacement, what are the cool kids using?
@Marty+Putney Does not take much to throw the WAN down to the the 100Mb/s connection and data rate, so you do need to know that fact that it is not the Switch keeping the wan up at 1Gb/s nic rate and the ONT down at 100Mb/s. But any speed up near the full wired or wireless returning through the sky Hub will let you know that fact! I was going to do similar but decided NO just keep the WAN direct on a Ethernet single cable Point to Point no patching it through socket's. Did wire all my son's and his 10Gb and 2.5Gb connections are all running fine through the Patched sockets network!

I tried having the box right next to the fiber point but it would only detect 100Mbps when connecting to my network.

@Marty+Putney Which part the WAN or the Lan for the 100Mb/s connection to your Network.

Re: Sky Hub replacement, what are the cool kids using?
Sorry not sure what you're asking but...
I have no 100Mb connections. They're all 1Gb.
If I hook the hub into the fiber connection where it comes into the house and then the hub into my network it sets my network connection to 100Mb. If I hook my network into the fiber box and then move the hub to where the network gear is then the connection from the fiber to the hub is 100Mb (inferred because at most I can download 100Mb) but the connection from the hub to my network then shows 1Gb.
Now I'm using that mini switch between the fiber connection and the hub itself and the hub is acting properly.

Re: Sky Hub replacement, what are the cool kids using?
@Marty+Putney It's this way, Port 4 Wan on the Sky Max hub MUST go direct to the ONT Lan port, the other 3 Lan ports off the Sky Max you can do as you wish to connect 1 or more of these as Nic Interface to your Internal Network or devices you want to attach direct on the Max hub.
The Lan and Wan off the Sky Max hub is a 10/100/1000 Auto negotiate to whatever port/cable it finds, even though you have all 1Gb/s Ethernet if you connect a cable with 4 connections on it or one that has 8 connections but has 1 bad connection on that Rj45 it will drop back to 100Mb/s, ALL 8 cores are required for a good 1Gb/s connection!

Re: Sky Hub replacement, what are the cool kids using?
Yep, I'm aware of all that.
I have a cable checker and I verified the speed running OpenSpeedTest and it was performing fine.

Re: Sky Hub replacement, what are the cool kids using?
@Marty+Putney Thought you would be, hope you find what's causing it to peg back, or as you say keep the switch on via the wan as it's buffer!

Re: Sky Hub replacement, what are the cool kids using?
It's all running fine now so I'm going to leave it as is. This is over wifi. This is about the limit of the wifi. It's about 4 years old TP-Link
