Sky Gigafast upgrade
Upgraded from fibre 500 to Gigafast. Agent tried upgrading my hub from Sky Q ( black) to the new Wifi6 SkyMax router and x3 pods.
Not heard good things about this router/hub.
Existing set up is 2tb Sky Q , x4 mini's amd x 2 Sky Boosters and all work okay most of the time. Reason for upgrade is boys gaming and no cost upgrade when contract renewed.
Will the older router i have be compatible with newer higher incoming speeds ?
TIA

Re: Sky Gigafast upgrade
@DanEssex68 Take a look at the link below first you should have the sky Broadband Hub and not the sky Q hub! You should also be having the sky Broadband Booster so that is the 2nd link! It all makes a difference with what you have?

I'd think yours is a Sky Broadband Hub rather than a Q Hub: the latter is obsolete and doesn't support Sky Talk Internet Calls.
The Sky Broadband Hub is technically compatible with gigabit FTTP on WAN and LAN, but is only specified to WiFi 5: the Max Hub is WiFi 6, so theoretically 'better'.
If your Sky Broadband Hub is performing satisfactorily then there's no particular incentive to move to the Max hardware unless you want Parental Controls.

Re: Sky Gigafast upgrade
@TimmyBGood and also @DanEssex68 is sky Max even a good combo with sky Q main box and 4 mini's to start with? Would suggest that what is working just now with the sky Gear is what is required to make the system all work currently assuming it's all wireless connected and even hotspotting off everthing!
Edit:- @DanEssex68 just trying to see if sky Max is going to help out with your wifi, you could end up with a major wireless wifi mix up and a very unstable network, is everything you have working just now A ok?

Re: Sky Gigafast upgrade
With the Sky Max hub the Sky Q mini boxes no longer act as WIFI hotspots. Might not be a major factor in the choice if you get pods though.

@DanEssex68 therefore there is really no reason to switch unless you need the other features WiFi Max offers like parental controls.
It is tempting to buy into newer tech like WiFi6, 6a or even WiFi7 but why bother if as in most domestic networks the speed they bring will rarely be required? New WiFi standards are introduced almost every year. The latest proposal WiFi8 will be around in 2029 roughly when Sky Q is likely to be run down and on paper looks more useful,as it focuses on lower latency and greater stability both far more important than higher speeds in home networks for video streaming and gaming.

Re: Sky Gigafast upgrade
@DanEssex68 Going with @Chrisee on this, your wireless wifi speed on the SR203 you have will peg back a little so you may not get much more than the 700Mb/s out off it as a straight ONE device speed hit, untill you try you will not know, but with the fact you have two off the older SE210 booster's they are already pulling it slightly as well....
If you did not have the sky Q and the 4 mini's would say go for it and see, but you are already aware off the Max/Pod combo and they just do not play nice with sky Q....
Going Gigafast on the FF900 sky package will take you up a little from the FF500, so it will help that way, the extra speed for the Kids that may just not happen! So from your opening post, take the upgrade and keep all your current equipment just now!
