Sky Fibre install process

Hi Folks

I have just ordered Sky Gigafast 900 Full Fibre, and was wondering who does what in the install process ?

I got a text from Openreach telling me they will need to visit the outside of the house to install the fibre to the external connection box on the side of the house...which is fine.

Sky have given me a date for the install/go live and I was wondering who comes to finish the install. I mean...its an openreach ONT so is it Openreach who make the connection from the external box and install the ONTinside the house....or do Sky do that ?

If its openreach , do they also commision the sky hub and commision the FTTP service ?

cheers

Guy

Sky do have a few engineers trained in splicing the external csp to a internal fibre pigtail and then to your ont. Other than that the probability would be openreachwill do it

Could you enter you full address below and post the notes below the table

Hubs aren't 'commissioned': they get plugged in.  Typically that's a task for the subscriber, but either Openreach or Sky personnel might choose to do this depending on how pressured they are for time.

Its an overhead feed so comes to you house via the same copper phone before been dropped down to a csp and hole drilled through to the inside where an ont is installed 10 metres from where it enters the house and 3ft from the nearest electrical socket.  Openreach will likely do the entire install themselves.  The router is installed by yourself

Re: Sky Fibre install process

@GuyTrem The installation OR or there Approved contractor do the fibre pole to home, they may even stick the ONT inside etc, plug the ONT, watch it, they may even switch it off/on a few times as they can tell with the light sequence on the ONT what is going on, looking for the device to be FW updated if it is needed, when they are happy they may ask you for your router so the can plug it in, do a quick speed test, say they are happy and off they go into the sunset....

Are you a sky user just now with a working system? If so where is your router placed at present!

Re: Sky Fibre install process

I am a Sky TV ( Q ) user of 25 years , but currently take my broadband from Starlink. I also dont have a phone line ...so its a completely raw install for Openreach ...

I want them to punch through the outside wall where my Starlink cable goes through ...so the sky hub and ONT will be where the current Starlink router is located.

Re: Sky Fibre install process

@GuyTrem Do not know what router you have with starlink, what you are getting with sky, if you are finding reasonable now, NO 2 routers are alike. Hope it all goes to plan for you.👍
