More likely the scammers are auto dialling entirely number blocks.  A data breach is reportable (with huge financial penalties for not doing so) and gives the bad guys with far more information to work with to make their calls more convincing.

Re: Scam numbers

I had exactly the same scam call today. There are also a lot of reports on the "Whocalledme" site, with several people saying the caller knew their name. They also knew my first name. How is that possible?

Re: Scam numbers

SKY really need to up theor game here and somehow let people know what they are up to. I've had texts and calls this week regarding fibre broadband and on looking up the numbers of both have come to loads of comments saying it is a scam.

How about the old fashioned sending out of a letter? Or putting out an advertisement across the media to tell people there either is or isn't a scam?

Clever scammers latch onto actual projects: for example the national FTTP rollout is very much a thing, and ISPs (including Sky) are starting to offer proactive switching.

03334-439 830

This number just called asked for me by name and to confirm my address... Again for the booking of an engineer to upgrade my line to Fibre. But when they asked me to confirm my password I hesitated and pretended I couldn't remember. They then asked for me to identify myself via other questions, starting with DOB. That's when I said no thanks I have given over enough detail. So she hung up.

Be careful.

@Charlie8242 the number on your phone means nothing it looks to be a genuine Sky number butvthey are dead easy to spoof. However from your decription it does sound like was a genuine call from Sky one idea when asked for a telephone password give the wrong word a Sky agent will know its in correct but a scammer will probably accept it. The agents need the password to be able to open your account failing thst they take you through a security check.

Re: Scam numbers

I just had a call from the same number asking if they can upgrade my broadband to full fibre for free.

I said to her you can't possibly be from Sky then as it was done 2 months ago and a simple check of my products or my bill would show I already have full fibre internet.

She hung up on me. I definitely think its a scam!

Re: Scam numbers

Yes,we`ve had this company on the phone quite a few times including yesterday.having checked the number,it does appear to be a scam and my wife told the caller so.If i want to upgrade to full fibre,i`ll conact Sky myself.

Re: Scam numbers

I have had a WhatsApp message, text message, and now a missed call regarding an upgrade to fibre. This is unusal activity for Sky who would normally phone the landline, e-mail, or letter regarding any changes to contract.

Having checked online this looks like a scam as then number has a negative rating on Who Called Me. Highly convincing though as they are using the Sky logo on messages.

I fortunately haven't responded to any requests and wouldn't have as it seemed dodgy to me. Will report to Sky as hopefully they can send out a communication and warn other customers before they get scammed.

@CLarner

It might be a scam but then again it could have been sent by Sky as explained here:
