Router upgrade
Hi, I'm looking to purchase a gaming router to utilise 2.5gbps Ethernet. I stream games between 2 PCs and the 1gbps sky router is a bottleneck. How would I go about doing this?

Re: Router upgrade
@Tom19932 Use a 2.5Gb/s switch between both PC's and connected to the sky hub on one port!

Re: Router upgrade
I have since purchased a TP Link router and modem to utilize better Wifi and router software. The modem i've brought has been advertised to work straight out of the box. Is there any information i will need to collect from my old router to ensure it connects correctly? Will i also have to inform Sky about the change?

Re: Router upgrade
@ttonks993 You may wish to get the SSID and the Password from the old Hub and use those values in the Tp-Link, and you do not need to do anything with sky regarding using the Tp-Link on the connection, there will be zero support for what you are trying to do. If you have any issues at all then you need to reconnect the sky hub back up for ANY sky support!

Re: Router upgrade
@ttonks993 if you have a partial fibre connection and have to use a separate modem it is stillthe router that authenticates the connection which will have to use Sky's DHCPv6 PD method as TP-Link routers do not support Sky's alternate DHCPv4 Option 61. There is a risk that your exchange does not support the former method as around 20% dont.

Re: Router upgrade
So connected both the modem and router up and it worked straight out of the box. But I am only getting half the bandwidth I'm quoted to get.
Could this be a settings issue or if it's connected then it's all set up? Maybe an
issue on Skys end?

Re: Router upgrade
@ttonks993 Your fttc connection you have not said what your connection speed that you are on so half of whatever does not help, if for instance you are close to the cabinet on a 80/20 fttc connection then you should easily get close to those speeds with both wireless and wired testing. Network is shared so to truely test, ALL wireless devices off, and one Ethernet connection on your Tp-Link router/mesh what ever way you have done it. Tp-Link will be Wan connected to the Modem you posted earlier picture wise. Couple off speed test links below.
https://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest
https://speed.cloudflare.com/
If you were like me on fttc i was 800M from the green cabinet as the cable went so 40/10 was the max speed due to the distance.
If you use the Address checker box link below that will tell you what to expect down the fttc connection that you have got!

Re: Router upgrade
I'm quoted to get 80mbps download. In the past this has been 60mbps, but i am only seeing 30mbps download since swapping out the sky router.
If the connection is online does that mean there is no settings to be tweaked on my end to increase speed?

Re: Router upgrade
@ttonks993 No way off knowing what is going on with the setup you created what you are doing or if indeed you have domne it right!
Put the Sky hub back on and check the condition, if you have a line problem then the speed drops, if not and the speed is fine then you need to go look at what is going on so the Modem is the place to start looking at it!
If you have been DSLAM'ed because off all the swapping in and out changing over you are stuffed and have to wait 10 day's on the system to recover!

Re: Router upgrade
I suspect that @JimM1 means DLM'd: the automated application of Openreach Dynamic Line Management to reduce broadband speed in order to increase connection stability when adverse line conditions are detected.

Re: Router upgrade
@ttonks993 Take a look Kitz - DLM System
As per @TimmyBGood Every time you disconnect the DSL cable you create the potental for the system of the DLM to hammer your speed down as it has no idea why the connection is disappearing, that happens when swapping back and forth when doing the modem changeover! If you have been forced down reset or leaving the 10 days again to recover is the only way!

Re: Router upgrade
So I will have to wait 10 days then call Sky and ask them to increase my speed?

Re: Router upgrade
No, DLM moves upwards in steps automatically over that period.
