Router recommendation for sky q + mini

Hi there

id like a recommendation for a third party router

i have sky gigafast, with sky hub sr203 and gigafast fibre connected via ONT

i have sky q box connected by ethernet

and sky q mini box upstairs which has poor connectivity

overall the sky router has performed poorly and drops out often as I work from home this has become frequently annoying
wondering what options I have to get better coverage across the house with a third party router that will support sky q mini connectivity also

Thanks in advance

Re: Router recommendation for sky q + mini

@Rchaggar

Sky Q equipment only uses wireless channel 36 and Sky Q mini will only connect to Sky wireless equipment, unfortunately, unless it's 2.4Ghz which is a poor-performing wireless band.

Recommend you connect the Sky Q mini box by ethernet cable or ethernet over powerline adapters.

And if you want better wireless then pick an Asus router that is tri-band wireless when you have modern wireless equipment.

Using a wireless mesh is an option, eg: using a tri-band Asus wireless mesh with 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz & 6GHz  for the wireless backbone (802.11axe wifi 6E) two units or more if needed offers the best performance possible across the wireless mesh (6GHz 160Mhz wide) and connectivity on 2.4Ghz/5Ghz for wireless clients, and 6Ghz for future-proofing and wireless backbone.

Re: Router recommendation for sky q + mini

@mae-3 Thank you sorry I should have mentioned a budget - upto £300 upper limit.

Asus ET12 Pro is then out of your range but keeping the Sky router and using Google WiFi 6E equipment would be in your budget, and is the cheapest offer for WiFi Pro 6E wireless equipment at about £180 per unit.

Re: Router recommendation for sky q + mini

@mae-3

thank you! Ideally I don't want to keep the sky router as an access point - looking for a direct connection to the ONT to simplify setup and aesthetics as the router is setup in my living area.

I'll keep a look out for any offers

The cheapest option for wifi 6E in the form of the Asus ET12 Pro has been provided, look out for offers but the price is around £400 and these are excellent for Sky broadband as I have one myself.

Re: Router recommendation for sky q + mini

@Rchaggar

It walks you through the installation on WAN and selects Automatic IP and DHCP Options. Then on the next screen enter the details under DHCP Option 61 only 'anything@skydsl|anything' for option DHCP Option 61 without the single quotes.

It should be in router mode to obtain the walk-through... Once that is done connect it to the ONT and you are in business with wireless, etc... The Asus comes with instructions on its default details for login SSID and password.
