Re: Replacing Sky Router

@mae-3 @cookiemonsteruk Me again!

Having a weird issue! Everything set up and working perfectly last night, getting 900+Mbps wired directly through the router and through the switch. Tested on multiple devices, Macbook Air, Mac Studio, Apple TV and PS5, worked flawlessly!

Today however, wired speeds have dropped to around 400Mbps, even when plugged directly into the router. Power cycled the router, made no difference. My wireless speeds are currently slightly fast than wired (worst case they're almost identical). I'm not really sure where the issue could be?

Sounds like a throughput fault with Sky.

-------

Zen internet on FTTP (900Mbps down, 100Mbps up). SAT> IP (Apple 4K 2nd gen TV to LG C1 OLED UHD TV/Dolby Atmos Denon AVR, DacMagic Plus for Hi-Res audio), hosting own blog/forum (cluster), OPNsense & Zenarmor L4/L7 NGFW & DPI IDS/IPS, Asus ET12 Pro Tri-Band wifi, Linux, Gamer: Xbox Series X/i7 laptop, round-robin DNS over HTTPS, non-proprietary VoIP HD AMR-WB (G.722.2) and more... Beta tester Apple iOS/watchOS/tvOS/iPadOS/macOS.

Re: Replacing Sky Router

Interestingly, if I run a Speedtest using "Internet speed" through the ASUS router app I get excellent results; 925Mbps down/111Mbps up, not sure what's going on

That would rule out a Sky fault,

What release of firmware on the Asus router and is it the latest?

To me that sounds like a device is using the bandwidth so you can't run a speedtest at full speed.

Re: Replacing Sky Router

But wouldn't that affect wireless speeds too?

@Timberflake

Yes it would but you said wired speeds were around 400mbps & wireless was only slightly faster whereas the Asus test is the full 900. When you run the Asus test it reserves all bandwidth for itself so if your speeds are lower than the Asus test it suggests there is a device on your network using that bandwidth

Re: Replacing Sky Router

But there's nothing on the network rinsing that much bandwidth

@Timberflake

Well that was the main question, are you sure there isnt? Have you checked them for background downloads, cloud syncs, upload tasks etc. Is there any bandwidth use on the Asus overview page?

Re: Replacing Sky Router

Real time traffic stats in the ASUS app shows total downward traffic 3-4 Mbps, mostly over the WAN

Re: Replacing Sky Router

So I've found the problem, I disabled QoS and instantly saw speedtests and downloads return to 900Mbps!

That would make sense!
