Re: Replacing Sky Router

Yes, an access point (AP) will improve the wireless in the room concerned, it doesn't extend it as such it provides a new wireless network in that area.

For this better wireless routers support more wireless bands and channels effectively reducing the likelihood of interference with neighbours.

A system that extends wireless mesh networks is a better choice for reliability, and these can be wired or complete wireless mesh setups around the house.

Re: Replacing Sky Router

I don't want to have different networks I need to connect to so that's not the way to go.

The Asus models that I have suggested will support a wireless mesh that has the same SSID throughout the house.

Re: Replacing Sky Router

So I've set the XT9 up and thought I'd cracked it but apparently not!

It asked me for a PPPoE username and password which I though I knew but the main page of the Asis app says "unable to connect to the internet". I'd powered off the ONT for 30 minutes prior to starting the setup process.

Under WAN connection Type it's still currently set to PPPoE but there's options for DHCP and Static IP, should I be choosing one of those instead?

Re: Replacing Sky Router

@Timberflake

You should choose DHCP for the WAN connection type, then fill in the field DHCP Option 61 with 'anything@skydsl|anything' without the single quotes. Then leave it off for about 30 minutes and then connect and power it on and you should be in business.

Re: Replacing Sky Router

There's no field called DHCP Option 61, when I select WAN Connection Type > WAN Settings and change it from PPPoE to DHCP I'm taken to a page to input a primary and alternate DNS

Re: Replacing Sky Router

I can't see anything called client identifier in the WAN options either.

The DHCP query frequency should be changed from aggressive to normal on the screenshot that @cookiemonsteruk has posted.
