Recent SuperFast Fiber - why so slow?

I've had 'copper' broadband from Sky since it was invented! Recently I was forced to convert to fiber as my copper exchange is being shut down.

The fiber is significantly slower than what my copper use to give me - is this really progress??

(Copper 54Mb, Fiber 44Mb)

Fell at 1st hurdle! Still had stored login from last router so have locked myself out! To get myself back in,, if I just select option to restore to factory, then use, 'admin' and WiFi password would that be correct?

@cookiemonsteruk

Did the additional stats help you any in a possible diagnosis of slow speed?

Re: Recent SuperFast Fiber - why so slow?

Have now resigned myself to 'superfast fiber' being the same as the old copper broadband network. When I 1st got 'broadband' years ago, stepping up from dial up, Sky supplied me with a 2Mb connection for a decade, and I survived just fine.

Just disappointed that I was forced to get something I absolutely didn't want, as my BB connection was just great at 50Mbs, thought at least with fiber I'd get better.

Still, I have the demise of Sky HD TV to look forward to when Sky eventually force me onto another platform I don't need/want. That's progress I guess... 😂

Where 'Superfast' is delivered over copper phone line then yes, that's literally correct.  FTTC is always limited by distance from the local fibre cabinet.

Confusingly, Superfast speed bands can also be offered over FTTP, with the distinct advantage of there being no speed drop over distance.

I have full FTTP as witnessed by OpenReach digging a 2 inch wide trench in my concrete driveway to install the fiber cable to my hallway. I have fiber all the way as my copper exchange is now decommisioned, hence me having to transfer to fiber in the first place.
