Hiya,
Has anyone had any issues with Sky when trying to upgrade their NBI speed.
I have had the 500Mb package with sky for the past year and was looking to upgrade to the 1Gb speed once my contract was up. I spoke to a sky rep last Friday and they said they would put me on another years contract on the 1Gb speed for €45 a month. Fine, I thought as it would save the hassle of moving to another provider. I agreed and waited…..and waited.
I rang to ask what was happening and they have now told me that they can’t increase the speed due to a ‘quirk’ with NBI that doesn’t allow them to upgrade!
It seems insane to me that they can't upgrade the speed.
Anyone have any similar issues??

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@smiddyboy the way fibre networks work is that a number of connections share a single fibre connection back to the exchange and it is possible the network supplier will not allow another gigabit connection on your node due to contention issues.

I have just tried to switch to SKY from Eir and have been told by the sky rep that I can not switch to them because NBI own the line. I know when I first got fibre I was told by sky that I could not get 1GB as NBI and Eir had done a deal and would not allow any other provider to get the 1GB only 500MB.
Now I can't even get the 500MB with Sky and will have to either stick with Eir or go with Vodafone as they haver also done deals with NBI and SIRO.
Seems like there is deals between the providers and line owners which is killing competition.

Presumably permitted by Comreg, though.
