Poor fibre speeds

Q1.  We are supposed to get 500mbps, currently only getting 25mbps.  installers said sky router is rubbish, sky have said i need to change the router settings as the ones they come out with dont cope with fibre.  however im fed up calling Sky and going through their automated diagnostic system.

Q2.  Can I get a new router and simply plug it in instead of the Sky one?

thanks

@yojimbo while the Sky hubs are not the best they can comfortably deliver well over 500Mb/s over wifi - its how I am typing this reply. No settings need to be changed but first thing is to make sure the hub is out in the open and not in a cupboard or in a corner on the floor. If your service was insta lled today it can take 12 hours before Sky's network delivers the full speed.

Re: Poor fibre speeds

it was installed last wednesday.  its in the same spot my previous router from satellite broadband was giving me 70mpbs.  i didnt say they were rubbish,  my installer did.  i didnt say the settings needed to be changed, SKY did...

@yojimbo installation engineers say anything to get out of the door and what you were told is rubbish.. Suggest you call Sky if you are unhappy as your hub is well capable of delivering the speeds you bought.
