Poor Ethernet signal 88mbps when over 500 on WiFi
As above, I have a SR213-02-UK-wht router that supplies a Sky puck with an Ethernet cable, the speed I'm getting "Netflix test" is only 88 Mbps and sometimes a lot lower as the screen pixelates and goes off during programs, I also get messages like "let's try that again, please wait for your program to load, please refresh your connection",
been onto Sky since before Xmas , spoke to several people through their "chat" on messenger and keep going around in circles as one person logs off the next asked the same questions again and as each question takes sometimes hours to respond, I'm getting a bit fed up
I" ve tried a separate cable direct to the puck, I've reset and restarted puck and router, taken cables out and put back in,they've even sent me a new puck but I think it's more to do with the router restricting the signal somehow as I've also got a fire stick that gets the same signal and also registers 88 Mbps
I do receive a 500 Mbps wifi signal to my iPad which is what the Ethernet should be, anybody got any ideas ?

Re: Poor Ethernet signal 88mbps when over 500 on WiFi
@JohnAk Sorry you do not make it clear in your post, but are you saying you have an Ethernet Cable between and connecting the sky Max hub to the sky Max pod?

Re: Poor Ethernet signal 88mbps when over 500 on WiFi
@JohnAk the Sky Stream pucks only have a 100Mb/s Ethernet port as nothing they stream needs more than around 30Mb/s.

Re: Poor Ethernet signal 88mbps when over 500 on WiFi
@JohnAk Pretty sure that the sky Pod does not support having a direct Ethernet backhaul connection all the way back to the sky Max hub, the two Ethernet ports on the pod are for connecting to local devices only!

Re: Poor Ethernet signal 88mbps when over 500 on WiFi
@JohnAk did you read my post? You cannot get over 100Mb/s via Ethernet to any Sky Stream puck due to it having a 100Mb/s port not a Gigabit port..Tjis is not sn issuexas the abdolute maximum dataxrate is well under 50Mb/s.

Re: Poor Ethernet signal 88mbps when over 500 on WiFi
@JohnAk Have you also look on the streaming section off the Forum Board just incase there is a problem going on there at this time, that will not show up on the broadband side as it's not about streaming TV services as the all and does others services as well!
Given the choice to Ethernet or wireless wifi connect a sky puck, then the Ethernet will always win hands down connection wise!

Re: Poor Ethernet signal 88mbps when over 500 on WiFi
But my point is that I'm paying for a 500 Mbps service and Sky was never able to give
me that through an Ethernet port/ cable limited to 100 Mbps , so for you guys that work for Sky is there anything in the small print that says WiFi speed only

Re: Poor Ethernet signal 88mbps when over 500 on WiFi
@JohnAk I's the device a PUCK just does not need that kind off speed that is why it has a 100Mb/s Ethernet port on it, virtually every TV has that kind off port speed, a 4K streaming movie is about 40Mb/s max speed so it just does need it....
If you check the 500Mb/s is the speed to the sky hub, if a device needs 1Mb/s that is all it's going to get as that is all it needs!
The Forum is all customers like yourself, no one works for sky! Yo may wish to read the link below!

Re: Poor Ethernet signal 88mbps when over 500 on WiFi
@JohnAk you will get up to 500Mb/s via Ethernet to devices with a gigabit port or via WiFi to devices within the full range of the hub. In practice very few apps can use let alone need the full 500Mb/s. When was the last time last tome you tested the top speed of your car? It is not a lot different with brosdband.

Re: Poor Ethernet signal 88mbps when over 500 on WiFi
@JohnAk If you want to see the speeds you are paying for you will have to use a different streaming device eg latest Apple TV. On the Speedtest app I recorded 918/108 down/up.
Apple is the only streaming device I have ever owned that has a 1 Gigabit Ethernet port. I have had Roku Ultra, Streambar, Stream all use 100 Mbps ports. They all streamed reliably.
Why you are experiencing streaming problems I don't know, but Ethernet connections are generally best.
My ISP does not supply any network equipment, but because my partner WFH, I invested in 3 x Asus XT9s and never had issues with buffering, speeds, or WiFi signal in every room.
Now TV Sports + Entertainment + Cinema + Ultra Boost @ £34 pm (till April 2026)
1000/115 FTTP (Aquiss) to Zyxel DX3301
3 x Asus XT9s + + RT-AC58U V3 for WiFi (AP mode)
65" Samsung S92C OLED TV
C430 Samsung soundbar with subwoofer
6 other streaming TVs
43+ network connected devices

Re: Poor Ethernet signal 88mbps when over 500 on WiFi
@JohnAk all thst can be said with confidence is thst your issue is not related to the speed of the Ethernet connection if it is showing 88Mb/s on the Netflix app network test. You have over double the speed any video file can use.
Plenty of advice available in the Sky Stream board. Potentially you could have a dud puck which can happen as a first step try askiing Sky to swap the unit. Another potential issue is an issue with the fiile given there are well over 100k files in the library these do happen if a particular title stalls but others run email Sky's viewer relations tram at viewerR@sky.uk who can get the file checked.
