Phonely VOIP

Hi all

My elderly mother had Sky Broadband installed a few days ago.

The plan was to take out a separate VoIP package with Phonely, as she wanted to pay upfront for a year.

The problem is that it doesn't work.

Phonely have suopplied an adapter which plugs into one of the ethernet ports on the Sky router.  the phone is then connected to the adapter and in theory should then work.  I have tried two phones which we know work - they were in use with the "old" copper system up until last Saturday when it was ceased, and despite troubleshooting on the phone with Phonely support (and them sending a replacement adapter) we're still unable to get the phones to work.  There is no dial tone and dialling does nothing.  Oh, and whatever ethernet port I have tried has an orange LED showing, but only when it's connected to the VoIP adapter - if anything else is plugged into the port(s) there's no orange LED.

Phonely say everything looks ok from their end but have suggested that there may be a firewall issue with the Sky router.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what I should look for?

Many thanks 😊

Brian

Re: Phonely VOIP

@Radio59 Looks like the Ethernet port connection from the adapter unit to the sky hub is correct, and the light is indicationg that there is a port connection, if it is anything it will be the settings for the adapter are wrong, but you need to say which sky hub you have?

2 things to look at on the hub would be possibly uPnP on or the sip alg settings.

Re: Phonely VOIP

Thanks for the reply.

It's the SR203 hub.

I'm new to this hub so would need a bit of hand-holding with the settings!

Re: Phonely VOIP

@Radio59 Web interface to the sky hub, https://192.168.0.1/ will get you there, the user name is admin just as you see it, the password is that off printed on the card or the sticker back off the hub, when it gets asked for.... Links are also below from the Tips above.

Port forwarding you need the info from your VOIP company if that is required, uPnP on will probably take care of most!

Re: Phonely VOIP

Ok, so uPnP was already on.  I followed the steps for the How to turn off SIP ALG and rebooted the router, but everything's still the same, including the LED.

Is there anything else I can try on the router side, or do I need to contact the phone company again?

Re: Phonely VOIP

@Radio59 If uPnP is on then you should see the port values assigned by the adapter if it has done it correctly. Did the phone company asy what if any ports they needed to be open?

If not then you do need to call them back.

Re: Phonely VOIP

No they didn't mention anything about ports but simply suggested that the firewall may be blocking them.  I can't see any firewall rules...

I've looked at the UPnP Portmap Table but there's nothing at all listed - the table has 0 entries.

I saw the Phonely link you posted when I was waiting for the otiginal adapter to arrive - it's basic and not much help beyond what plug goes where 🙄

Looks like it'a another call to them then.

Thanks very much for taking the time to help JimM1 - much appreciated 😊

Re: Phonely VOIP

@Radio59 Phonely should be able to remote connect to the box and see what it is doing regarding it's setup!

Re: Phonely VOIP

Apparently not.  They told me that I need to key-in a code through the phone keypad to get an IP address, which I then tell them so that they can then remotely access it, but as there's not even a dial-tone I can't dial-in the code, so they can't. 🙄

Re: Phonely VOIP

@Radio59 You where in it all with the web manager, one off the pages there has everything they will need so you can give it to them.

Sky Hub Status and Broadband port is all they will need, IPv4 Address for the router,,,
