Pack Loss and Fluctuating Ping

I recently phoned Sky regarding this issue, to which the automated handler informed me there was an issue and advised that I try sky.com/connection. After trying all the tests no issues popped up yet I'm still, after about a month now, having issues at my end.

The issue persists primarily with gaming where I will rubberband and lag, consistantly.

- The Sky Q Hub, although further away, has the best ping of around 20 -50 but still has massive stutters of packet loss.
- The Booster, although closer, fluctuates between 20 - 2400 ping and will often freeze whilst having packet loss issues.

Please could anyone advise on how to fix this issue.

@Anica1 Your issue is almost certainly with using a booster. Gaming over wifi is always risky due to interference adding a second jump by a booster is asking for trouble. If you have no choice then check your booster is in the bestvposition which is no more than half way between the pisition of your devicexand the hub as the booster requires a strong connection to the hub to work properly.

Ideally though you need to condider a different network. The best connection for ganing is over Ethernet less good but normally better is to use powerline networking. If you are not to seriously into gaming consider investing in a whole homecwifi mesh set up which are far better at dealing with interference.

Re: Pack Loss and Fluctuating Ping

The booster was installed as advised and as you say, half way inbetween the hub and device.
Originally we got the booster to help with the issue a couple years back, and it's been great up until about a month ago.

I'll have a look into powerline networking. I've heard TP - Links are quite reliable, cheers.

Don't use WiFi or power line adapters, you will suffer from lag and interference.

Use a CAT6 or higher patch cable.

(I use CAT8, better shielding against interference).

@Anica1 ethernet is always the recommended solution but where that is impraxtical then powerline is a better alternative to poor wifi.. You are wasting money using Cat8 which is mainly used in data centres where its 40Gb/s speeds can be utilised . It is massive overkill in domestic networks which are never going to run at over 2.5Gb/s in the forseeable future and trying to run inflexible cat8 cable is  more difficult.

Any cable with a spec of cat5e or better will be suitable but Cat6 is quite cheap and available and supports up to 10Gb/s
