Openreach / sky hub location

Hi all

just signed up for sky stream and fibre broadband . Have the joys of the openreach  ONT in the understair cupboard (new build standard it seems ).  Just wondered if I locate the sky hub outside the cupbaord will the internet speed etc be ok or is it the ONT being in the cupboard that will cause slow speeds? i can easily drill a hole through the wall so the cable will reach if hub was out of the cupboard. Its easier than having to drill a bigger hole/s for the ONT box to be out of the cupboard. The other phone sockets are just standard connections so moving the ONT isnt an easy option that i can do.

cheers

The ONT being in the cupboard won't cause slow speeds. Siting your broadband Hub outside the cupboard would be entirely sensible.

Just FYI your phone will plug into your Hub.

Hi @Lukert14 In my previous property I did exactly what you are thinking of doing and it made a significant difference.  To see if it was worth doing I first put the BB router outside the cupboard on a small hall table for a couple of days and only after that did I decide it was worth doing and drilled a hole through the wall for the cable.

@Lukert14 As a new build, do the other rooms all have an Ethernet data points, and they all end up in that same cupboard as well?

Do not mess with the ONT in the slightest, the fibre connection is not something you wish to be moving....

So hopefully if he/she is allowed i may get them do drill the hole or something so my router can be located at of the cupboard. Thats if they need to enter the house. As i know it could just be connecting something on the outside
