As @Chrisee indicates, the national optical rollout isn't on anything like that schedule, particularly as difficulty mounts in reaching more remote locations.  IP service delivered over existing copper bearer cable (i.e. a 'phone line') is likely to continue to at least the end of the decade: it's the analogue signal over that cable which is due to cease.

I think they've been consuming too many Telegraph/Mail scare stories: 'cutting off' telephone users, particularly vulnerable ones, is something the whole project is specifically structured to avoid, otherwise it would never have been sanctioned by Ofcom (which effectively means it has government permission)

Apologies for butting in this thread. 

The BT wholesale checker is now telling me that full fibre is available at our address, but how long does it take for Sky to register this is the case?

Multiple posts suggests that other ISPs are faster at updating their sales systems than Sky Broadband.

There was some speculation that Sky might only do a database update monthly.

@cuke give them a ring I ordered my switch literaaly a day after the database was updated and the agent could find the details and place the order.

Thanks, it will be a blessing to go from around 30Mbps to something quicker especially after getting used to a 80Mbs synchronous connection we had at school.

Nope: that's based on a misunderstanding of PSTN switch-off.  It's simply not planned (or feasible) to get an optical circuit to every UK address on that timescale, and it's absolutely not necessary either: almost even the worst copper can carry the 100 or so Kbps required for a voice service to be delivered over IP.

The tricky bits of the project prior to 12/25 are:

i) getting broadband of some kind  to around a million properties which have never had it

ii) supplying currently served properties with a voice-capable router (replacing millions of Q Hubs, for example)

and

iii) teaching users that it's the 'phone' socket on the router (only) which will work after the switchover

Just one other question, it states served by a duct,  so will the new fibre cable to our property use the same? Or will, as the pole is almost outside our house, they take the easiest route and just run a overhead cable? 

The current entry point is a wall near the corner of our property immediately facing the pole.

Well I've just rung Sky but their records to say fttp is available to our address have not yet been updated.

It's no surprise though that other IPS's are able to offer full fibre but will try again in a few days time.

Yeah that's really weird. Even if you do a compare broadband check it'll still show the really bad 60Mbps as the highest you can get for some reason.

Keep doing  the checks  on the my sky app as it showed up on my app are it did a speed test back in December  for full fibre  in my area lowest  is 145mps, 500mps and 900mps with sky when it is available in your  area, booked it on the 16th  of December,  and fttp was put in by open  reach  on the 17th  of  this month  and you can have the onto box put where you want it in the house , fibre  cable from  the telegraph  pole to a grey box outside  the house,  then  fibre  cable  from  there  to  the  onto box inside, there are videos  on YouTube  you  can  watch  to see how it is installed,

Keep a look out  in your  area for open reach engineers putting  the cables in the street and the connection  on the telephone  poles  in the area put your post code in a search  on the Internet  to to see if full fibre  is in your area, don't  just use  the my sky app
