Openreach Cut Fibre cables to property
Hi Folks. Here's a strange one. The evening of 4th September...our CCTV picked up a chap in a high vis vest, looking very shifty, and then tampering with our 'cable feed box, located on the wall, outside of our property. CCTV, and all service was lost. Today, looking back at footage stored on the camera , it transpires, this person was a Openreach engineer. I booked an enginner via Sky to visit the following day, Saturday/£15 charge. The engineer that called knew nothing of the previous days visit, and advised that the wires had been cut. probably to disable our properties security. I logged this with the Police. This morning, Openreach have visited, and reconnected the wires. Can't seem to speak to anyone, to find out, what the Hell is going on!

Re: Openreach Cut Fibre cables to property
@MikeRo If you weren't expecting Openreach on th 1st visit and nothing was booked with for that particular visit it's unlikely Sky would ever find out what happened.
If what the 2nd engineer is saying is correct then other than what you've done I dont know what you expect Sky to do here?

I can't speak to Openreach, perhaps Sky can, to ascertain what is going on. Also, the small matter of £15 paid for the Openreach engineer visit, and not to mention the inconvenience of having had to do a 100 mile round trip, to check on the property. Thanks for your input.

Re: Openreach Cut Fibre cables to property
@MikeRo But what your saying is a suspicious person cut the fibre, not Openreach.
As a result you booked a fault and paid £15 for a weeekend visit? And you want to discuss with Sky your 100 mile round trip for something that seems to be out of their control.
Unless you have booked anything through Sky for the 1st event then openreach will come to the same conclusion Sky didn't ask them to attend to disconnect you.
I'm not sure what Sky can or even will do as this event seems outside their control but feel free to call them on 150 from a Sky Talk or Mobile.

Re: Openreach Cut Fibre cables to property
@MikeRo It's unlikely you will find out why that person did what they did, Openreach won't disclose any information to Sky if it was one of their engineers as they where not there at Sky's request,
If you believe that the cables where deliberately cut in order to disable the security at your property then you need to report it to the police and let them investigate, they will be able to get Openreach to confirm if it was one of their emolyees/engineers.
Just out of interest how have you confirmed it was an Openreach engineer?

Re: Openreach Cut Fibre cables to property
The £15 charge was purely to book a quicker weekend appointment. There was no reason why you couldn't have waited for an uncharged visit. Sky won't have known you were doing a 100 mile round trip to your property and won't reimburse your for that which is something you chose to do.

Re: Openreach Cut Fibre cables to property
Oh yes, having your properties security system, interfered with and disabled, whilst you are some distance away, would not give anyone cause for concern...no urgency, plenty of time to sort

Re: Openreach Cut Fibre cables to property
I agree you felt it was urgent and perhaps necessitated a trip home under the circumstances but even so that is not something Sky will factor in regarding any reimbursement you're seeking.
