ONT with multi ports

I am a new customer waiting for installation of ONT in my premesis. I wish to know if the ONT supplied has  single or multi ethernet ports .

Re: ONT with multi ports

I believe all current installations are single port. Multiple port ONTs are only fitted where multiple services are ordered.

@cosmos Openreach normally install ONTs with a single ethernet port for domestic lines there sre various models used but customers get no choice . If later you order a second line then presumably the ONT is changed.

Given only a single router can be connected to a service this makes sense. Sky hubs offer 3 LAN ethernet ports and it is simple to add more using an Ethernet switch.

Older multiport ONTs are a historical anomaly, as the deployment topology these anticipated never emerged.

As noted above, current ONTs almost always have a single ethernet port to link with an ISP router.

There's a newer model of ONT in Openreach stock which returns to having multiple ethernet ports, but this is for unusual premises with more than one FTTP broadband service.

Note that ONT ethernet ports do not have switch functionality, and cannot host devices other than routers.

The Sky Broadband Hub and Max Hub models have four ethernet ports, of which one is the WAN link to the ONT.
