Not receiving broadband speed we are paying for, and now a price increase?

Good evening,

More of a rant really so apologies in advance.

I have the Sky Broadband Superfast which they suggest that the average download speed is 59mb/s. 59mb/s is sufficient for what I use the internet for I think, we stream a lot and game online. It seems that we can only do one at a time. If we do both, I will lag or disconnect from my gaming or streaming will begin to buffer. That led to seeing what the actual internet speed we were getting. It turns out we are getting 7.6mb/s download speed. Spoke to Sky, stating that the area has some horrific, old copper wiring which is shocking and won't deliver the speed that we are paying for. And that was that! So not really sure where to go from there. However, we noticed that the price has gone up per month by a further £5?

Just seems a bit unfair. Just need advice on what we could do?

@mattbella

Are you sure you are not getting confused between the two different measurements of Mbps & MB/s. In your original post you said you measured 7.6MB/s which would equate to 63mbps which would be above what Sky said they would provide to you.

That's a a particular form of national average which Ofcom and the ASA permit ISPs to use in advertising: it's not a promise that such a speed is available at any particular address.
