New Fibre Install

Hi,

I received an offer today to upgrade to ful Fibre (100) for no extra cost.

I accepted this offer, as currently my broadband signal is shocking. it was poor to start with, and I have since built an extension over it, knowing I was going to move the point of enty to the house.

I was in the process of arranging moving the POE with ex BT engineer.

So my question is, will this be a new fibre connection to my house from the junction box in the pavment ? or will it be the old connection in copper which I will therefore have to carry on arranging moving the POE.

I have a duct in the ground ready for the new connection to be installed. just need what is going to be installed.

As the national network maintainer Openreach has some (limited) statutory powers, but still has to seek wayleave to fly cable over private land, and gain permission to access while working.

It is an overhead feed with possible line of sight issues.  So fttp exists but may be trees in the way

Re: New Fibre Install

Don't quite understand that. There is no pole near my house. Unless they are coming across the back gardens.

Or daisy chaining ?

I have a junction box in the pavement outside my house

Unfortunately that doesn't help if the local optical cable distribution is overhead.

Perhaps try a few neighbouring addresses in the BT Wholesale lookup to confirm.

Re: New Fibre Install

So will they end up daisy chaining ? From road to house, across back  to back gardens to my house ?
seems odd. Unsightly for me and the neighbours !

All we can go by is the lookup results, which as @cookiemonsteruk said indicates a (problematic) overhead connection.

If there aren't underground Connectorised Block Terminals (CBTs) in the vicinity then ducting cannot be used because the fibre just isn't there.

Re: New Fibre Install

Thanks for your reposnses

Once last question which you may or may not be abke to answer.

Assuming Openreach take the fibre cable the 51m, accross the road, then across my neighbours garden, across our shared drive way to my house. - how will they do that ?

would they need access to my neighbours garden ? if I was him I would say no.

Just cant see how they are going to do it, and ofcourse cabt speak to Opereach to find out !

Re: New Fibre Install

That was my question. how is this done ?

Im guessing the cable would have to be physically walked through the neighbours land.

Therefore I am held to ransom by whether or not my neighbour agrees.

@JLB01 you are jumping to conclusions if you place an order with Sky Openreach locally to you may reject it as impractical as you suspect or solve the issue this isnt your problem it is their's.

Re: New Fibre Install

Thanks Chrisee

I understand this.

But its also a little more complicated with my personal situation.

Ive just had building work done. the original incoming underground cable got damaged. the cable was joined back together to get us by, as we were always going to move the Point of Entry. the joint now appears to be failing giving me currently 2.1Mb/s spead to my hub. - the kids are going mental !

Ive installed ductwork in the ground from the pavement joint box to the new location ready for a frindly Ex BT Engineer to give me a new connection.

But its pointless if in month this will be obsolete.

Hence im trying to understand how and if its likley to happen
