New FTTP very poor speed test

Hi,

Joined SKY today on the 500MB package.

My line speed is very poor when testing on Ookla, every single server tests between 5 to 25MB for download, the upload speed is always at 70 to 73.

Tried on Google and that was well below par as was fast.com in incognito.

Most of these tests were done directly connected to the router with nothing else connected.

@Madhatter it has been reported before that there can be delay before Sky complete the connection at their end and the speed increases. If the speeds have not improved by this morning I would contact Sky but before you do so if testing over ethernet cable check the connection is gigabit capable,

Re: New FTTP very poor speed test

Hi Chris,

The connection is gigabyte enabled. All my cables are at least cat5e or 6.

The dongle am connecting the laptop and RJ45 to is GB as well.

It's really peculiar that one server will test fine albeit speed starts dropping and others never better than 25mb.

Is there a number to call them on as can't see anything in the app or website.

The chat bot just won't pass through to an agent

Re: New FTTP very poor speed test

@Madhatter Although speed tests are subjective and depends on server response, you say that you are using a device to get lan on the laptop, is it usb - ethernet, and not plugged into a usb2 port on the laptop, this can be as slow as 400mbps for usb2 and not the best for speed test, if the laptop has a usb3 port that would be the best to use for speed.

The link below i have found to be fairly consistant for speed tests also.

Re: New FTTP very poor speed test

The device uses a USB-C. These are some of the speed tests, Lit FIbre was fine, less than 30 ,minutes later its a 10th of the speed and there was no change, am the only one working, no downloads etc

Re: New FTTP very poor speed test

Yes I did and twice it came in at 460.

Tried Ookla again and same poor speeds.

Not sure what's going on here, unless Sky prioritising your link? If they were,,nt why is Ookla so poor,?

Tried a download from work server and that's normally circi 5 minutes, said 1 hour😯🥴🥴

Re: New FTTP very poor speed test

@Madhatter First thing i would do, log into your sky account and have a look at the broadband shield setting, fact that you moved fttc - fttp it may have been reset to lower priority. I have mine turned off...

I have always found ookla not to be the most relieable but with your consistant upload i was a little bit suspicious off something going on. Check your shield if you have not already done so.

Re: New FTTP very poor speed test

Will do buddy

I migrated from.FTTP to FTTP.

If the upload was poor as well, I would put it down to my setup or server.

I have just done a whole set of speed tests with nothing connected except laptop and WiFi disabled on both channels, results were the same, except Vodafone and Tooli servers the other 6 or 7 same sub 3 to 25MB, upload solid 72.🥴🥴🥴

Re: New FTTP very poor speed test

Turned off the shield settings and tech asked me to plug cable into Port 4 and use WANoe, sadly no improvements.

The same test server few minutes apart goes from 440 to SUb 20. Perhaps I should swap the lines over as upload is always rock solid.SkyHub.pngOOkla Speed test 2024.02.24.png

Re: New FTTP very poor speed test

@Madhatter He should have also told you that it takes upto 24hrs to get through the system.

I would wait and test again latter, The port 4 etc does not seem to matter as others have posted and had connections on other lan ports for fttp, seems it works in any port.
